Honestly, Sekiro has been one of the best games to have come out of the past few years. Ghosts of Tsushima couldn't beat it due to its "cinematic" (read. stiff) gameplay. Although I've still yet to play Yakuza 6&7 and Cybershit 2020

>Genichiro at Ashina Castle
>Guardian Ape
>Glock Saint

2020 was fucking terrible for video games

ghosts of tsushima has a totally different focus, and I wouldn't call it stiff nor cinematic.
both good games, but I don't think it's really fair to compare the two just because you use a katana

>Inner Father goes full anime on your ass
God Damn that shit was good

this, nioh 2 is a lot more closer to sekiro than ghost of tsushima and its not nearly as good

Been reviewing Monk a bit after , so many step-dodges have been had

>because you use a katana
Which would be fine for Sekiro's timeperiod, Sengoku-jidai, but not for Tsushima's 13th century. They used different kinds of swords (tachi) at the time, but this game portrays them to be katanas, since katanas are the standard stereotypical 日本刀 (japanese swords)
t. /his/

>kino
Isshin easily, the scene and intro to that fight are by far the best.
>ludo
Genichiro, because it's the first boss that really forces you to learn the game mechanics.

Sekiro was a disappointment for me but of course it is better than any game in 2020 cause no one can reach Fromsoft's quality.

Isshin Ashina, The Sword Saint.

The mechanics in the boss serve to combine everything you've learned into one holistic experience. Now we know that the boss fight is good gameplay-wise, but why did it actually feel good in the context of your overall experience? Because all throughout the game, the story places you on the supposed righteous path of serving your Lord, pitting you against the disastrous machinations of Genichiro. Isshin is your main benefactor and serves to not only hire you in stopping his own grandchild, but also allows you to rekindle your service to your Lord. It's easy to place you in the story as "good" and Genichiro as "evil" but when you face Isshin as the final boss all notions of good/evil are cast aside for this one moment. You can't really hate Isshin, because he's only honoring his own familial ties out of pity for his dying grandchild, thus you are faced against your benefactor and newfound mentor in a glorious battle that also serves to fulfill his final wish. This is something that Isshin never could have asked of you, not only because Isshin had grown wise in his old age, but also because it's a selfish wish that couldn't possibly be fulfilled unless he was in his prime. Yet the circumstances of Ashina's fall and your service of Lord Kuro led to this moment. The winner of that fight obviously has results and consequences pertaining to the state of Ashina and the Dragon's Heritage. Still, in that one moment, everything else didn't matter. You're not only granting the dying wish of your newfound mentor one final battle, you're also allowed the chance to prove your worth against him in his prime.

Isshin being resurrected to face you in his prime, despite acting as your supporter throughout where he even named you and the game's title, was the perfect way to end the entire experience. Very close contender would be Owl (Father) and I have my reasons for that but I don't think anons would want me to flood the thread.

so what? they're different style games was my point that aren't directly comparable
no one asked you about your /his/faggotry

t./his/ myself

I would say pretty clearly not, which is why the "GOTY" list is full of fucking rejects and games generally panned by gamers.

There hasn't even been a game as good as RE2 Remake this year.

Sakuna was fun though.

You aren't fooling anyone, /jp/

I played the Onimusha remaster after I found out it was basically a Resident Evil spinoff. Had fun. The remade OST by the Okami/FE Awakening composer was a pleasant surprise.

>Onimusha
Based.

Based. "Hesitation is defeat" being exactly how you have to fight him was also fantastic. I don't think there is a boss fight where you are supoosed to be more aggressive than here. You can stop his combos by immedaitely attacking after every deflection and failing to counter even once can often get you killed outright. It's brilliant.

FUCK
HEADLESS

Headless is hardly any worse than first form, and only an issue if you're barely getting through first form with no health left.

Whenever I see the “20XX...I am forgotten...” meme, this game immediately comes to mind

Disappointed that Sekiro didn't have an "Issen" like mechanic for the small fry enemies.

I voted yes. Not sure if i'm biased, because Ori 1 was my favorite game and as such i love Ori 2.

But, in terms of popular opinion and objectively speaking, i think Sekiro is the best game we had in the last 2 years.

>Barely advance because of the ass whopping I've been getting

I would say Divine Dragon if the fight wasn't such a cake walk, other than that Sword Saint blows every other boss out of the water

Been replaying this in the last month or so. At the time I was fairly decent and even managed to clear a NG without triggering Dragonrot but this new run was back to square one though I eventually got my groove back kinda like how Wolf had to re-git gud. The Inner memories were pretty tough and indirectly helped me learn the preceding fights, particularly Great Shinobi Owl and old man Isshin.
And finally got the nerve to try a charmless run and it's no joke, at NG++ every blocked hit hurts.
Anyway, bar the camera breaking lock-on, I think the game is fair in terms of difficulty and I wish we got a DLC, I mostly wanted past events but a user here suggested Genichiro's quest for the second Mortal Blade and gotta admit I love that idea.

Kensei Isshin, it's just a exhilarating experience. I also like the conclusion for Genichiro, he goes through a very interesting arc.
I also like the Demon of Hatred because of how subtly but steadily its build up. The second movement of his theme is also my favorite track.

>Very close contender would be Owl (Father) and I have my reasons for that but I don't think anons would want me to flood the thread.
By all means, do share.

Indeed, counter-slash attacks along with precise step-dodges are among the most understated tools in the game
