Are you sure about that? Is Smash Mewtwo the Mewtwo from the movies but like the early part of the movie? Because if I remember correctly, Mewtwo learns about friendship or some shit in like every movie he appears in.

Mewtwo Returns (during the Johto era) and a recent Journeys ep basically showed that same Mewtwo as actually caring for abused Pokémon.

The 4kids dub made him a villain. OG script just had him really pissed off at humanity.

Villains dont need to be evil, they just just need to be a foil, even if they represent chaos or strict law and not nessecarily morals

The Japanese version has Mewtwo with a voice, and it's the same VA who does the movie version.
I know that Mewtwo became a good guy, but wasn't he trying to destroy humanity or whatever even in the original?

Eggman is the objectively right choice, theres a few secondaries(I'd still like Porky) but Eggman/Robotnik is by far number 1

He's just a really obvious candidate for an echo fighter and I'm still surprised they haven't gone for it, making him an assist trophy again.

Yeah nah, every appearance of his after that had him way and distant towards humankind, but not antagonistic, and he genuinely cares for abandoned or wild Pokemon in the meantime. He was barely even a "bad guy" in the first movie, even though he did some bad stuff. He's callous and a bit ruthless, but not really a villain as much as he was simply the antagonist in the first movie and a sort of anti-hero in his later appearances.

They have villainous traits and all have been antagonists at one point or another, don't be dense.

They've served villainous roles in the past.

Dark Pit is arguably the least villainous, but still briefly serves such a role in the story of Kid Icarus Uprising.
