Learning basic building will help you in the long run.
You don't have to go crazy and build sky scrapers, just learn how to use stairs and defend yourself with walls.
Aim will help you immensely, rifles and snipers are your friend if you wanna go for aiming.
Beware of intense bullet spread.

the building mechanic is required, you can get some free kill hiding and shooting from a distance but you will be fucked 100% in shotgun battles or if the other person manages to get close to you and starts literally building around you and trapping you in

Yes actually. Buildfags panic when they build a whole-ass Taj Mahal without you following thru. It becomes this whole game of cat and mouse where you're the one with the upper hand.
You'll still need to learn building for general traversal tho, makes your life way easier.
