Is it worth buying a racing wheel or should I stick with a controller?

For sim racing like Assetto, iRacing: yes.
General advice for sim peripheral is to buy the best you can so it will last a long time.
Just for racing games it's probably not worth the setup time.
Also fun in trucking and farming simulators

i got one when i was in my initial d phase and it was fun.
Make sure you get pedals too.

Recently copped pic related second-hand for cheap. If you can get a good force-feedback steering wheel second-hand then 100% go for it, completely changes driving games for the better. The only downside is calibrating the profiler settings, which can be a bitch but once you get it down it's fine..

I have the same and I'm having fun with assetto corsa and dirt rally
it also works on my ps2 so gt3 and gt4 are much better with it
