Yeah competing with Sony or Microsoft directly is just a trick. They run a model where they pump so much money and get so little out even when they're the best seller. That it isn't actually sustainable unless you're a megacorporation who makes most of its money outside videogames.

Something like 2006 for Sony, slashing the price of the PS3 by $200 to save it would have just killed off Nintendo if they attempted something similar with WiiU.

Makes sense. A lot of the big modern games are designed to mostly inspire dread, anger, frustration, sadness.
Nintendo's catalogue, however, is chock full of happy vibes for the most part, even when it goes dark they keep it light.
That, in current year, is worth more than any teraflop or fucking 20% increase in FPS.
As well as that, portability and a lot of couch co-op options make it far more attractive than the less functional PCs that are the other two competitors.
The only real reason to buy a console that isn't a Switch is if you don't have a PC capable of current gen. It's not like any of the exclusives have mattered for years.
