Solving cases or just related to police? This is the Police is a nice small game about managing one city. Mechanics are pretty simple but story is rather interesting.
the dev is extremely wise

If you're after games where you're solving murder cases then thinking outside the box a little I would recommend the Ace attorney trilogy or the Danganronpa games. While you are not strictly a cop or detective in either, the protagonist finds himself in the role of murder investigator in both games.
Other than that, LA Noir and Disco are both good shouts.
I guess I more interested in solving cases but I will check it out.
I was expecting the dev pulling something outta his ass but holy shit color me surprised
I have played the first ace attorney and enjoyed it but I dropped danganronpa after the first trial, taking a break from vn's for a while
Don't get pic related, it's literally commie propaganda, the faggots who made it are socialists and what little voice acting there is in the current version is features people from a commie podcast team.
heavy rain
indigo proohecy
This also the game has a retarded dice roll mechanic that decides if you see clues/progress in dialogue and shit like that. It's supposed to be a detective game but it plays like D&D.
Zig Forums trolled me into playing this pile of shit. Don't be like me.
I don't want to play as an ugly person. That's my only complaint about the game.
Phoenix Wright is pretty good. You play as a lawyer but you do tons of investigating in it. Tons of case solving too. If it hooks you I suggest playing the original trilogy
Perhaps not
Disco Elysium is great, but the actual murder investigation is less of a focal point than the main character trying to rebuild his shattered psyche from scratch.
well that's disappointing. I knew that the devs seemed pretty in bed with leftism but I figured the game's narrative was worth it despite all that especially after all the rave reviews (not just from journos either). Guess that'll be a pass from me.
D4
If you don't mind terrible cliffhanger endings
They mock literally every ideology that the protagonist tries to emulate
D4's later parts getting shitcanned makes me sad to think about, I had a blast with what's out there of it.
I heard there is a free update coming out that gives full voice acting or something
why is that even a feature, is it one of those features where it is better while playing than watching ?
I got drastic a few months back and have been replaying a few ds games, already finished the first ace attorney looking forward to finishing the trilogy
Does it get pretentious or is it done well ?
unfortunately that's a pass for me user
Judgment
So what's the problem?
Finished it last year, kaito best boy
The dice roll is the games way of telling you that you can’t solve everything. It makes your run more unique and different from someone else’s experience. If you’re the type that likes to do everything in run one, I can already tell you that isn’t happening.
>This also the game has a retarded dice roll mechanic that decides if you see clues/progress in dialogue and shit like that. It's supposed to be a detective game but it plays like D&D.
That's omitting that you get some of the best dialogues, (or even companion at the end) , by failing tests.
>Does it get pretentious or is it done well ?
That's subjective, but I enjoyed it. There's a lot of humor and existential dread to balance each other out, and most characters feel well-developed enough that they don't just feel like caricatures to knock over.
Yeah, the format of the game really fit Swery's weird-ass style without any shitty combat or driving mechanics to drag it down. But I imagine that releasing exclusively on the Xbone at first with no marketing didn't do it any favors.
Deadly Premonition is the more complete experience if you liked Twin Peaks and don't mind maneuvering around pure classic jank.
They mock Communists by far the least. Communists are generally written to be the most likeable characters in the game too.
Indigo Prophecy had a genuinely great premise and introduction, but there's a very specific point where it stops being a supernatural cat-and-mouse murder investigation and suddenly becomes a drug-induced DBZ episode filtered through all the bad dialogue from the Matrix 2.
not sure about the game, but Blacksad comics are pretty great
Failing is fine. They should have made failure possible by saying "this choice is influenced by your awareness/reflex/whatever skill but the value of attribute points you needed to pass the skill check wont be shown to you".
The dice roll can completely fuck you if you pumped up specific skill up and still get a failure roll because now you can't explore any of the other options because you didn't put enough points in any of your other skills.
Its artificial difficulty creating artificial replayability. You almost HAVE to savescum to experince the most out of the game because even by making a completely different character you can still get most of the same experience as your last character just because the game wants to fuck with you.
The most prominent communist character in the game is the worst.
>am I missing out on anything else ?
yes, hotel dusk
the dice roll is the game's way of beating you over the head with a hammer telling you the protagonist is a failure, the game devs were failures and you're a failure if you like this game. Honestly some pretty impressive meta.
