Anyone who says i is a fucking idiot. In no control layout is it convenient to use i.
Unless it's the type of game with a general "interact" button, inventory has to be E. If it does, then you go to Q. If Q is used for something more important, assuming there isn't a "reload", R. If there is, use F. Worst case scenario, you go to V. Anything beyond that ceases to be convenient.
