But doing so isn't financially viable. The majority of Smash players will stick with Ultimate anyways. It's got all of their favorite characters and most of the old stages and then some, which is the big sell for most of the fanbase.
It wouldn't be viable to go through the trouble of rereleasing Melee and maintaining online functionality for the sake of satisfying a handful of players.

Views do not equal active players, especially in Melee's case. It wouldn't make sense to release a port of it just to please basement dwelling compfags, by the way, the barrier of entry is even more extreme on the competetive side than any other FGC game so the "new players" argument goes out the window aswell
