Name a better soundtrack. A soundtrack that both perfectly sets the atmosphere and accompanies the gameplay, but is also great to listen to on its own. That is also fucking huge and varied just enough to not feel disconnected. I genuinely think there's nothing better than this. RDR2's is great but there simply isn't the sheer amount of bangers that are great on their own

MGR

I liked NOCTURNE's the most but IV and IV FINAL were top notch soundtracks as well

This my favourite ost. It's insane how good it is

Actually also a good pick

DXHR and Persona 1 come to mind, but you're right. Games that have soundtracks that compliment their events and locations so perfectly are few and far between.

I love p1 but it's a small soundtrack with short songs.

Too bad the best OST is stuck on the worst SMT. Hopefully SMT V can deliver in both music and gameplay/story departments

too bad the only good part of smt4 is the soundtrack

Tropical Freeze

IV already did, persona shitter.

Shut the fuck up, retard. IV's plot is mediocre and the combat is absolute shite. The story's premise was so good, but eventually it just goes to hell. Aside from the music, I can't think of a single major aspect of the game (story, writing, exploring, combat, etc.) that other games in the series don't do better, and I am thinking about SMT games, not Persona games, you goddamn mouthbreather

The combat was the peak of the entire megaten franchise, only surpassed by IV:A
If you don't like it, then you don't like JRPGs, in which case your opinion is worth literally nothing.
Only legitimate criticism in your shit-filled post was the exploration, but then that has never been a strong suit for these games, and IV was limited by the dogshit hardware of the 3DS.

How about Unreal, Unreal Tournament and Deus Ex? I'd imagine these games would be excellent candidates alongside MGR.

LOL, not even close. Listen to this, it gets you in the mood youtu.be/OmbiENL5qYQof

>The combat was the peak of the entire megaten franchise
oh you mean the combat that will rarely get even to turn 2 because you either one shot all the enemies or enemies one shot you is the peak? and that's not even mentioning smirk
christ what a shit opinion

If SMT4's plot was garbage nocturnes was a complete dumpster fire. Fuck off. Nocturne will never be as much of a real SMT as 4 was.

>The combat was the peak of the entire megaten franchise
Str is absolutely useless. Smirk is a stupid RNG mechanic which only serves to be exploited. Basically demons follow the same small handful of stat distributions, several of which are useless. Physical demons with no MP are hot trash because physical skills don't use HP anymore. Normal encounters and boss fights alike are over almost instantly.

IV:A fixes IV's combat and has the best combat and boss fights in the series, but vanilla IV's combat system is absolute dogshit. I'd rather go back to SJ's combat than go back to IV from IV:A.
Nocturne's plot is pretty bad too, I'm not denying that.

>Basically demons
Basically all demons*

Demons have zero individuality, not only because of the small amount of stat distributions, but also because there's no affinities or limit on what skills can be passed on. Not to mention how garbage the demon recruiting in IV is, again, pure RNG garbage

I agree 4's gameplay isn't that good but apocalypse's has the best gameplay in any turn based rpg I have ever played and it's not even close for me.

I agree, I would unironically rate IV way lower if it wasn't for the OST.
It sets the tone so unbelievably well for certain situations and locations.

Even outside of the game I still listen to the OST ever since I finished the game.

To elaborate a little, I don't think IV or any SMT game needs to deliver in every department. I love SJ's dungeons and atmosphere, but the combat is pretty weak. SMT 1 has a great story, but the combat is the worst. IV:A has the best combat, but the writing makes me wanna kill myself

All I'm hoping is that V is able to deliver on all fronts desu, both for the series' sake and my own enjoyment.

Yeah, Apoc's battle system is great. If it were possible to port IV:A's combat system to IV, IV might probably have been my favorite SMT, and I'm the guy who was originally shitting on IV earlier in the thread.

It has one of the best plots in smt though.

Yeah, when I think back on it now, I think my memories of the game's plot have been tainted by the writing's inconsistency (especially Walter changing his character completely) and the game's other problems. I think I'd rather say IV has a good plot with bad endings.

I played this myself recently at the request of a friend, made it all the way through and so far I feel bad saying that Apocalypse feels like it has a better soundtrack. There's some good music in the original, but the overworld theme and several of the area songs are so droning and have no energy or life to them so it starts to drive me insane.
