That's wrong though. The processes close if you just close discord for good. It runs in the background by default but there's literally nothing stopping you from clicking "quit discord" on the icon and closing it.

This is a feature of the client so that you can let everybody else know what game you are playing or what music you are listening too. Normies see this as a good thing, rather than bad.

Apparently it doesn't a bunch of spyware/botnet shit but that's not why I hate it.
I hate discord because it killed organic and emergent interactions in video games. People rarely use allchat or in-game voice chat any more, they just hang out in their personal servers with their close friends, leaving the game world itself almost totally silent to outsiders. Lobbies were fun because you could actually meet people and make friends - you'd coordinate with good teammates, you'd trade bantz with enemies, you'd have a laugh and add each other after the match. Now everyone just locks themselves away in their little bubbles, never branching out because they're too accustomed to their safespaces.

Bigger discords and using it to supplement actual social interactions I imagine.
Every discord I've ever joined has a specific purpose like trading/selling/tech and I use it exclusively for that and never posts in the general chat unless its on topic. I got tired of trying to befriend internet strangers over a decade ago.
