I find it better than TTYD in a lot of ways, like characterization and party interaction. Nobody stops mattering or developing the instant their character arc is over.

It's unironically better than TTYD. Gameplay is more interesting and requires actual thought (assuming you're playing on hard mode) and because you have a permanent party of three each character gets development throghout the game (as opposed to in Paper Mario where characters are quickly forgotten after the chapter they are obtained in).

The game adds a lot of its own unique shit to the battle system and overworld exploration, as well as changes that improve what was flawed in TTYD. It really feels like its own take on what came before it.
