The ones I liked playing with in their trials are the ones I level first. Next one is definitely Chongyun

I have been playing for about a week. I only level the 4 I'm using.
Razor, Fischl, Kaeya, and Sucrose

My main party is FemMC (wind), Kaeya, Ravor, and Xinyan. I dropped Amber, Lisa, Noelle, Xingaling and Chongyin.

I want to test different combos and just do whatever i feel like doing, but this game makes it difficult to level up more than a few chars at once. im considering buying gnostic hymn just for the extra exp books it gives and the bp for one of those weapons (the bow looks fine)

You can also use the stardust to buy the xp books in the shop

You use Hero's Wit/Adventurer's Experience/Wanderer's Advice. This is the only viable way to level up your characters since combat only gives you a trickle of exp at a time. This being a gacha game, however, you'll hit a wall around lvl 40 or so where you get increasingly diminishing returns from your investment, theoretically forcing you to buy with real monies more loot in the form of crystals to turn into primogems to turn into resins in order to grind dungeons for loot drops, or into stardust/starglitter to purchase the loot outright from Paimon's shop.

Speaking of Chongyun, does he have any plot relevance? I remember some NPCs making offhand comments about Xinyan but I've never heard any mention of the Chongus. I haven't heard anything about Bennett either.

Will probably come later. Fischl just got her story and Sucrose will get it along Albedo in 1.2, so there's a good chance everyone will get a spotlight for a while

i wasted a lot of resources on leveling up characters and i still have 500 purple books

Those leylines cost 20 resin each, limiting you to 8 each day since it takes roughly 21ish hours to refresh to a full 160, with the lost potential cost of missing out on dungeons and bosses, who drop loot that are necessary for ascending your characters. Don't get me wrong, I'm a f2pay chad myself but its hardly the most optimal path to leveling up fast, which is what the other user requested.

You have to get to AR 45 first, that's the toughest part. I'm hovering at AR 39 and those last 6 adventure levels feels like it takes forever since you've done all the quests that drop a lot of adventure exp and you just have to rely on a trickle of resin to do dungeons and bosses.

You should start with your main dps first and then level up your other characters.

9 a day, and it's the only way to level unless you are a paypig so it's as optimal as it gets.

Got 4 dps to 80 and 2 healers to 70 levelling more would be retarded and set me back months for future lvl 90.

Amber, Kaeya, Lisa, Razor, Xiangling, and Waterboy all had story quest chapters which didn't even require keys.

You need damage to clear content. The game chokes you on resources, leveling everyone is a bad idea for new players this is a fact.

It's not like I have a choice since I need two teams for Spiral Abyss and my main DPS (Razor) is already level 80.
Trying to get Ning as my second team's DPS though she is currently way behind Razor in terms of damage. Almost at AR45, then I will start grinding artifacts, boy won't that be fun.

Keep to a single team untill you want to start abyss 5+ that will require you to make a 2nd team.

He has a seperate side quest where you meet him in his forest,
Hell even Xiangling has a side quest where you help her win a cooking competition.
I think i did it at around AR 18 or something, it was pretty early on before you move to Liyue.
