is this the best way to play mgs2 and mgs3?

Pretty much. With that setup you shouldn't have any issues.
Wish Konami would stop fucking around with that 20 year old MGS2 port and just release a proper PC port of all the Metal Gears.

they recently release a GOG version of MGS1 + 2, with 2 having literally all the patches and fixes already applied
not sure what more you want, but i doubt you can really do more

>they recently release a GOG version of MGS1 + 2, with 2 having literally all the patches and fixes already applied
still inferior to PS2, PS3 and 360 versions

How.

teextures and gameplay

how
you said you want "a proper port", so tell what you'd do more than what has already been done

textures and audio worse than on PS2, missing effects, controls that don't work well (only with 360 version they made it good for digital inputs), made for 4:3

PCSX2 is the best way because those versions aren't gutted like the HD versions are.

1-3, yes. 4 dunno.

The hd collection on xbox one is the best experience. Best fps.

>emboss
I now have cancer

Thanks for the comparison images.

so what you'd suggest is a pc port with textures from the ps3 re-release, right?
i don't really mind the PC and PS2 textures to be honest, but i can see why others might not like them.
Everything else is not a big deal imho, imputs can be remapped so you can make them like the 360 version(it's what i did), and I always took the 4:3 as an intentional stylistic choice, and it can be fixed for 16:9 anyway
so yeah, i can see the differences, but they're literally not a big deal, you made it sound like the gog release was on par with the old pc one, which is defintely not, it's just slightly below what it could have been

The only proper way to play MGS2 is via PCSX2. There's no downside. It renders the game correctly unlike the other versions and has no cut content.

why do you retards insist on choosing only one subpar experience instead of taking the best of both? it's a pc and you can get everything for free
>RPCS3
>reworked to work properly at 16:9, including level geometry and camera angles
>actually have better and more clear textures
>60 fps
>MGS2HD doesn't have skateboarding mini game, nothing stops you from downloading Substance only to play that
>MGS3HD is missing Snake vs Monkey, nothing stops you from downloading the second disc of Subsistence
>MGS3HD has some graphical glitches, which ironically also exists in PCSX2 in hardware mode, so unless you're gonna play at 480i in the software mode you're gonna experience it anyways
>60 fps hack for PS2 MGS3 is making entire chase scene to run in constant slow motion

I agree. (Personal preference but) the shitty resolution is so authentic and looks kinda cool.

What the fuck? I'm looking at video and RPCS3 runs the HD collection far better than PCSX2 runs the originals.
I thought people were just memeing when they said PCSX2 was a trash emulator.

Yes. Emulation is your best bet for the first 3 games. MGS4 should be played on a ps3 though

i'm replying to someone who wants "a proper pc port", so it doesn't matter if it's best on PCSX2, i'm curious what this hypothetical "proper pc port" would be like, but so far it's just minor improvement from what we got with gog release, nothing gamechanging

>you made it sound like the gog release was on par with the old pc one
it LITERALLLY is the same thing

I played mgs2 on a ps2 emulator with my i5-2500k and 7870.

except it's not?
the original PC release needed a ton of fixes to even be playable, there was even a huge(1 or2GB, pretty big for that time) fan made patch to fix the mess that it was.
all of that has been already integrated in the gog port, and they added more recent fixes too, so no, it's literally not the same thing

>i'm curious what this hypothetical "proper pc port" would be like
better than PS2 version technically without the need of 3rd party tools to make it somewhat comparable to PS2 version
there's no for HD Collection not to be ported on PC
DMC3 was infamous for being a dog shit port that required modding to work properly on modern hardware, yet Capcom ported it with HD Collection and everyone is happy

God, you're retarded.
it's literally the same thing, except it includes some third party tools so it works on modern hardware, that's the only difference everything else is exactly the same

>>actually have better and more clear textures
>>>MGS3HD has some graphical glitches, which ironically also exists in PCSX2 in hardware mode,
Because this is incorrect, you're ignoring visual bugs, and you are defending removed gameplay segments. The lack of secret theatre in MGS3HD makes that version completely worthless to play and you don't get to see Snake's nightmare. Having unstretched UI textures if you choose to play in 16:9 isn't worth it, it's also significantly more demanding to play.

DMC HD port is pretty shitty bro.

The GOG releases are the base PC releases. The kicker is that GOG, at a minimum, makes sure that the game can run on modern systems. So there's usually a barebone fix implemented to work as such. The content is exactly the same.

pretty much but you're losing MGS1(can emulate with developer mode on xbox) and 4(never ever getting ported because lol)

Jack and dexter and God of war HD work better on the RPCS3 than pcsx2.

"secret theater" is literally just pre-rendered FMVs go on youtube if you want them so much

The Jak HD ports are shit though.

>you're ignoring visual bugs
Are you genuinely illiterate? IT LITERALLY HAS THE SAME GRAPHICAL GLITCHES ON PCSX2. DID YOU ACTUALLY EVER TRY TO PLAY IT INSTEAD OF PARROTING SOME r/PCMR RETARDS? Because I had just few months ago.
>The lack of secret theatre in MGS3HD
Literal low resolution videos originally released on the internet, and as I said, if you're that much autistic, just download the second disc of Subsistence.
>it's also significantly more demanding to play
now imagine that you have a PC strong enough to run it

I don't emulate as much as I used to, but thanks for the heads up on this.

don't forget the game relies on the dualshock pressure sensitive analog buttons otherwise everytime you pull up your weapon it will be discharged

Or you could... just play the original definitive edition of the game. And it's a menu that lets you watch all of the cutscenes wearing whatever you want and almost none of it is pre-rendered.

What's wrong with them? Real question.

No it doesn't and you need to calm down lol.
>Literal low resolution videos
Amazing, you[re accusing me of parroting when you've obviously never even played the game.

Same I to many actually PC games to play now day's.

>No it doesn't and you need to calm down lol.
And show me the proof. I have.
>Amazing, you[re accusing me of parroting when you've obviously never even played the game.
Where do you retards come from?

Almost every port has bugs like this. Next someone will say the Kingdom Hearts games are best played on PS4 or RPCS3 without knowing how dog shit those ports are. Just play the originals.

Though I will say Jak 1 is probably worth playing on RPCS3 if it works, it's pretty blurry on PS2. Not 2 though, not sure about 3.

Does the PS3 version remove the pressure-sensitive controls? MGS2 is completely fine on PCSX2, MGS3 is the one that sucks because the controls were designed for a PS2 controller.

>No it doesn't

Only reason I played on RPCS3, because It's so blurry on PCSX2 and ps2. Thank you for the link.

You're baiting right they're literally low-res FMVs
Here's Subsistence disk 2 "secret theater"
running on PCSX2 at 720 these are low quality fmvs
youtube.com/watch?v=G5iNHjMx60I
Only the main scenario Subsistence disk 1 cutscenes are real-time.

Legacy collection has pressure-sensitive buttons scheme
