attention to detail, along with uniqueness.

talented developers, a need to have attention to detail, not afraid of rubbing people the wrong way

Arbitrary pseudo-intellectual perception that changes over time. All games will gain soul as time passes, it doesn't matter.

Attention to detail, adding personality where it's not needed but adds flavor, good writing

thought-provoking existential questions

Soul is just an excuse for retards on this board to feel validated for why they like a game. If you like a game you like a game. No need to appeal to Zig Forums for personal validation.

A game made by people that aren't in it for the money / no AAA

EDF really gets too deep

nostalgia for old shit helps, but most games don't gain soul if they don't have some unique aesthetic

why walk when you can ride

I like to imagine what a video game would be like as a person. What is its personality, is it approachable, does it have interesting things to say, what things does it like, is it intelligent? If it feels like an interesting person then it has soul. If you are somebody that's making an honest video game then you have to put a bit of yourself into it. If I don't feel that, then the game doesn't feel like it was made by humans.

Good graphics

I bet you're an atheist.

when you can tell that it was made with passion. It's why soul != quality, as some games are immensely soulful and suck to play. Little details, commitment to its ideals, and uniqueness are what give something soul.

When everyone that worked on it clearly had a passion for it no matter how small their role was

Talent and focus.

Soul and heart are used when an old game is surpassed in every respect by later iterations of a series.

Like Jank they are throwaway lines in describing a game.

A clear vision in mind, and executing that vision without any compromises. One of the problems with modern vidya is it's attempt to appeal to everyone

That isn't reddit spacing newfriend.

I know faggots just want everything to be easy since society is based on simple labels but it's hard to define soul, and it can mean different things for different people. That's the beauty of it, it's a vague word where you can attach whatever meaning you think it has. The only losers are the ones that cry about it rather than finding their own meaning for it.

Nah, just someone who has grown to dislike these kinds of threads.

imperfections, but not to the point that the experience becomes unpleasant.

A long lost art in modern video games

I'm an athiest and I think soul is a very valid concept to discuss

soul is when vidya is difficult

Hm, that analogy actually makes sense

reddit spacing isn't a thing, retard

For all it's issues mechanically, Morrowind really is a fucking charming game. I understand why people consider it a classic.
