I no longer hope for a better industry
I no longer hope for a better industry
Here's an uncomfortable truth. The industry is better right now than it was in 2009.
There never was hope
that simply isn't true
7th gen (specifically, the period from 2006-2013) was the worst for mainstream AAA trends.
>every realistic game is suddenly downright monochrome, even if previous games had color (MGS4, Twilight Princess, Fallout 3, Gears of War, Call of Duty, etc.)
I blame Resident Evil 4 and Shadow of the Colossus, both came out at the tail end of Gen 6
>"we want the Call of Duty audience" is in full effect, most games are dumbed down like crazy for babies
>PS3/360 games chase the corridor simulator + "cool" setpiece every five minutes experience, the concept of level design literally doesn't exist anymore (new Thief and Resident Evil games were a joke)
>every game is a first-person or third-person shooter
>Wii installments of long-running series are really dumbed down mechanically (Brawl, Skyward Sword, etc.) to appeal to the Wii Sports crowd
Long running series that had their series go to shit in the 7th gen:
Final Fantasy (XIII)
Resident Evil (6)
The Legend of Zelda (Skyward Sword)
Metroid (Other M)
Devil May Cry (DmC)
Metal Gear Solid (MGS4)
Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic '06)
Thief (Thi4f)
Animal Crossing (City Folk)
Many trends from gen 7 persisted into early gen 8 games too, you can see 7th gen trends in The Order 1886 and Knack for example. Both absolute garbage.
What saved Gen 7 was handhelds. The DS saw tons of creative and original games, several of the which can be called amongst the greatest games of all time (Ghost Trick, TWEWY, Elite Beat Agents etc), and while many series were going to shit on consoles, long-running franchises' DS installments were great (Pokémon, Castlevania, Megami Tensei etc)
Demon's/Dark Souls' success had a huge impact on trends changing. Suddenly every Youtuber critic faggot was on about "good level design", "non-linearity", "enemy utilization", "game feel" etc. and developers started to realize too. There's a reason for the "it's like x meets Dark Souls" meme; every "serious" dev now wanted to be compared to DaS.
It's only really western AAAs now that are a joke. Japanese games and indies are better now probably than they've ever been. Just gotta look in the right places my guy.
why does the industry need to get better? There are plenty of good games already out which will last you an entire lifetime
>game releases with gameplay better than 99.9% of all the trash released this year
>however sometimes NPCs bug out
>"THIS INDUSTRY IS DOOMED"
>continues to play 20 year old games with more bugs than your average Bethesda game
More money always brings more risk aversion.
Nobody mentioned Cyberpunk you schizoid.
To add to this, the indie scene was absolutely non-existent at the time. The only indie game of note was Cave Story and a few XBLA games here and there like Super Meat Boy. If you wanted to escape cancer AAA games your only option (besides retro games) was to play flash games on Newgrounds.
But from 2011 to today, the indie scene has absolutely exploded. There's so much good shit out there being released today that isn't the latest blockbuster title. There's a huge stream of creativity and unwiue games coming from previously unheard of talent pools.
>Rain World
>Baba is You
>Hollow Knight
>Return of the Obra Dinn
>Hades
>Axiom Verge
>VA-11 Hall-A
>Outer Wilds
take your pick, there's something for everyone in the indie scene no matter what genre you like.
I'd much rather have the state of gaming in 2020 than than the cancer it was in ~2009-2010. I'm glad we're past that point.
>unwiue
*unique
oh well dude
for real the indie scene is popping and have basically replaced "b-games"
honestly most high profile indie stuff is better than the shovelware you used to wade through on PS2 back in the day
All that means is the industry died around 2007. Congrats, you just proved OP's point even further.
All your fav series are now dead.
The developers who did your fav videogames no longer creates videogames. The kind of people you despise are the ones in charge of the industry
It being an 'industry' is the problem in the first place
>Outer Wilds
>good
>indie
>talented
Oh I am havin' a laugh
I sitll cling to hope, but you are probably right.
the industry isn't dead, it just moved. indie studios are now the size of what used to be considered normal studios 20 years ago. let go of Triple AAA, embrace budget.
Video games died in 2007 and its only gonna get worse.
Haven't finished. I still have to mention the most painful one:
You are no longer their target audience
50 years of video games to play and you sit here whining and bitching that the next assassins creed has lootboxes or some other irrelevant shit. You are a pathetic piece of shit. You really should just listen to your impulses and end your pointless life.
>fifa
What the fuck? I've never met anyone who played these games
I really couldn't imagine caring about what someone who still posts wojacks hopes for.
Boy am I glad I wasn't born a senile contrarian
>t-t-then you have shit taste!
if I'm having fun, why do I give a shit what some le doomer boomer coomer buzzword-ridden meme-loving fuck like you have to say about it?
more like 12 years from 1994 - 2006
nah if you don't agree with the hivemind consensus of an anime forum populated with 14 years old then you are stoopid
> let go of Triple AAA, embrace budget.
This.
At this point, western Triple AAA market is beyond saving and your only hope of good western games are indies.
It's amazing how smaller studios/independent people can create much better games than a multi-million companies does.
I mean look at pic related, how did they manage to create a game THIS good?
Endless trash. Even the most hyped ones.
Posts like this are the exact reason I will never play TrannyCuck2077.
There is absolutely no way it could enrich my life in any meaningful way with such a brain-dead community.
>muh brown greek gods!
Fuck off, shit eater.
