Dead Rising 2's protagonist is such a bland serious dude compared to Frank West. I get that he's a serious father trying to save his daughter. That is understandable and all, but he's so fucking humorless. I don't give a shit about his daughter either. In Dead Rising 3, she grew up to be one of those unlikable slags that shop at Hot Topic. Kinda kills my motivation to save her in 2.

I also like in OtR, you can (spoiler alert for those who haven't played 2 or OtR) save Rebecca. She was a fun character that was like a female Frank West. She deserved a better fate than what she got in 2.

This is fair, but the Psychopaths go to shit because they were made to work with Chuck instead of trying to shoehorn in lines for Frank that would "still work" with the timing.

Most glaring of all is Brandon, who has a much bigger role as the guy who actually did plant the bomb this time... only for the cutscene to still be the same and barely making sense, despite them even reanimating the very end of the scene so he actually kills the woman in OTR unlike in DR2 where you save her.

The only two fights that are narratively good in OTR are Chuck and the clown as those scenes are made specifically for Frank. And no, while also made for Frank, the last boss sucks because it goes one step too far into zany territory which began the slippery slope to DR4.

It’s okay to like Off The Record for gameplay, but it’s clear that the game was the beginning of the end. It’s the game that assassinated Frank’s character and added more of the overly cartoony shit that made 3 and 4 hard games to play.
