i realized i'm third world poor so i want to make cheap "pulp" experimental games that are cheap and intended for people who can't upgrade or don't care to
i might have to use unity
>made
>made with Unity
Did you ever check what games have used Unity? You might be surprised.
>Unity
>Rimworld
>Escape From Tarkov
>Hearthstone
IS THERE ANYTHING UNITY CAN'T DO?!?!?!
>brought to you by the UNREAL ENGIN3
Nothing says "I'm a zoomer retard" than thinking a game "looks" bad because of one engine or another.
>made with Decima
You say this but there's barely any worthwhile games being done on engines like Godot or whatever.
>he doesn't know about gamebryo
What's the issue of Unity?
Small loadtimes
its used by almost every incompetent """developers""" who just shoves out garbage to make a quick buck from retards
It is too accessible and popular and which means that beginners might use it and that makes me angry!

If you defend this the indian sweatshop tool that is Unity you might as well be a actual shill. Even RPGmaker has more worth
Also Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift, Hollow Knight
Okay, I'll stop using Unity. Which shit I should use for my games? OpenGL with java?
unity isn't really the same as programming, everything is prebaked and the "programmer" is really just pulling a bunch of knobs and levers. It's similar to using a bunch of libraries in some other language, except even then you need to know more programming to understand what the library does. Unity is less malleable for the average user, which means that optimization is shit because functions have a ton of extra shit tacked on that isn't needed for the task at hand.
If you're not a programmer let me give you an example.. You know how bills in congress constantly accrue more and more shit the longer they exist? And towards the end of their life times they're so bloated that no one can even tell what it originally was? It's the same with a lot of libraries, they are just bloated. If you write your own shit it takes way more time and knowledge but it should generally (but not always) be faster.
Games on Unity also tend to feel really samey because everyone uses the same way to tie models to physics and objects in the world, so they all look and feel the exact same.
Super Mario Odyssey was made with Unity, more games than you think are. They just pay to get rid of the splash screen.
The lowest barrier of entry out of all engines so it attracts many pajeets and asset flippers that make shit games with it. If you find sholvelware it was most likely made with Unity, so the logo might be a bad omen, besides that, it does have some drawbacks compared to other engines but the other engines have their own BS too so it's not bad really when you take all things into account.
Cryengine obviously
Single threaded which means shitty performance.
Hollow Knight, Risk of Rain 2, Cuphead, Genshin Impact, Hearthstone, Shadowrun, Ori and the Blind Forest, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder, Fall Guys... All just new names to you?
funny monkey
They don't look like they've been soaked in oil for a week.
>Fall Guys
>Pokemon GO
>Rimworld
>Huniepop
>Escape From Tarkov
>Overcooked
>Overcooked 2
>Hollow Knight
>Legends of Runeterra
>Yooka-Laylee
>Cuphead

>Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online
>Superhot
>West of Loathing

>Temtem
>Pokemon Quest
>Oxygen Not Included
>Beat Saber
>Enter the Gungeon
>Parkitect
>Two Point Hospital
>Subnautica
>Hearthstone
>Disco Elysium
what game?
that bullshit you describe does exist but its disingenuous to imply that most unity developers even bother with that, the ones that know what theyre doing at least
jobs system, but thats assuming a given dev even knows how to use it (hint: it's not very hard)
Blue Revolver for one
if they're not using those features then what's the advantage of unity? it's like using rpgmaker and then coding everything manually
all of those games are shit
holy fucking BASED, blue revolver was stellar. I'm surprised that anyone on Zig Forums knows about it.
>looks
it's not just the looks, unity is an unoptimized pile of shit
levolution/weather
C# still has its advantages, and unity still has tools like the profiler that prove invaluable
>C# still has its advantages
like what
good lighting that isn't just bloomed god rays
It's probably been a decade at this point but I still giggle like an idiot every time I see this stupid image.
no publicly available engine has good lighting without a ton of work to be fair
i'm not a great fountain of programming knowledge since i write my neural networks in fucking javascript of all languages so thanks for the context
The Rimworld dev had to do so much shit to get around Unity's limitations that the only component system he uses from Unity is the sound emission. He is basically using Unity as a wrapper for his custom engine.
