>your character wants to become a living legend... because reasons. Never expanded upon >fixers say you’re THE BEST from the very start. yet supposedly you’re a fucking nobody >literally every scumbag knows you’re the one who “killed” the arasaka dude and robbed the relic, but somehow the corpo’s don’t know this because otherwise why aren’t they sending assassins after you and blowing up your apartment?
Don’t even get me started on how pointless and out of place it is if you choose the corpo life path at the beginning.
The game's big narrative element of Wholesome Chungus appearing every 20 seconds to take over your mind was literally done by Batman 5 years ago
Isaac Hill
The streetkid prologue was so retarded
>bartender says you have to help him with his debt because his loanshark is gonna break his legs! >oh his loanshark is just chilling upstairs btw >well surely if it’s a mission to cover a little debt it won’t be that big a deal >nah, it’s actually to steal a car so rare that there’s only four in the whole world (how would you even sell a car that obviously identifiable?) >Jackie is there to fuck it up, why was he even there? >police beat the shit out of you but let you go because “he looks after us streetkids” >Jackie and V are best friends now
What the fuck
Oliver Harris
>fixers say you’re THE BEST from the very start. yet supposedly you’re a fucking nobody Well yeah, they're appealing to your ego.
Grayson Wilson
It was also done by Telltale Borderlands 6 years ago
Austin Smith
> meet Keanu Reeves > tell him you fucking hate him > he literally tries to murder you > One mission later you guys are best friends
This game really was a fucking disaster
Alexander Green
To a lesser extent Crysis 2 9 years ago as well
Christian Morales
The nomad one I picked was pointless.
I chose it because it said on the start screen “being in a clan has its perks”. So I thought they’d back you up or something at some point.
Instead you start off having abandoned your clan for mysterious reasons. And the only thing it lets you do is occasionally say “Yeah, I came from a clan myself” like I’m a fucking Skyrim character
Jonathan Wilson
It really feels like they wrote the game around Keanu Reeves just because they thought people would buy it for Keanu. The entire concept of his character is genuinely cringe and childish, I can’t imagine actually thinking it’s a good addition to the game having a real world celebrity pop in every 30 minutes to “be cool” around you
Charles Anderson
Game was made for Nomad only. Original (pre Lifepath) story was also an outsider of some kind, I think. To make matters worse, they railroaded any straight male (largest demographic) with one shitty option that isn't even "punk", and also makes you end up with shitty nomads.
Jonathan Moore
I thought I missed a cutscene or something
One scene was him telling me to kill myself while I took pills to get rid of him as he punched me
The next he’s casually talking about some guitar player on the street and V is chuckling it up about finding an old record.
What the actual fuck
Henry Lee
The ending is just another slap in the face along those lines.
Samuel Flores
the whole keanu introduction is fucked why are you saying you're having hallucinations when you've only been having them when you were unconscious after taking a bullet to the brain
Juan Myers
Every "lifepath" is like this, corpo being the most pathetic. >dude imma play as a cold corpo asassin guy >literaly kicked out of the corp 5 minutes in >become a merc like every other "lifepath"
Samuel Cook
DUDE, PLEASE FEEL BAD ABOUT JACKIE DYING EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE ONLY KNOWN HIM FOR TEN MINUTES
WE HAD A MONTAAAAGE
Angel Morgan
Bro they spoiled the death in a trailer two years ago
Josiah Ramirez
>>your character wants to become a living legend... because reasons. because money
Julian Martin
Not really, since he acknowledges that you have to fucking die to be a living legend
Jeremiah Miller
Corpo is supposed to be that you get fucked over by them and now you hate the corpos. Which yeah is stupid why they even have the other two life paths when you just become a street kid either way
Lucas King
I thought were supposed to be able to save him if you change your choices, but then it seems they took choices out entirely relating to that to make room for Keeanu
Charles Reed
That makes the most sense in the Streetkid path imo. Rags to riches, etc.. My main issues with it is the same as other lifepaths though - you don't really interact with it much beyond the intro. Never get to hunt down Kirk the shark afaik? Same as Jenkins and Abernathy being non-existent in the Corpo intro. That would have been great.
Outside of that, Streetkid is silly that your male V wears a "Bitch" Moxes shirt, but you're not in the Moxes. Can't join any gang, in fact. I would have loved to grow up in Japantown with Tygerclaws. Not the Mexican hood, personally. I don't even understand how this supposed Streetkid got to be so badass without any backup or affilitations all of those years. It doesn't work like that.
Nolan Collins
If you're supposed to hate the Corpos, then they should have made a mission to get revenge on Abernathy. But they couldn't even bother with that shit.
Dragon Age did this 10 years ago with the whole "Cousland" story.
Daniel Gray
Yeah it’s pretty cringe how you start as a streetkid with a broken nose talking about how if they knew who you were they wouldn’t have tried to mug you
Well, who the fuck are you?
Bentley Murphy
Why do I distinctly remember him explaining that he changed his mind because he knows you're both fucked and he just wants to stick it to Arasaka? Is this because I went to meet with Goro at the diner before fucking around with side shit? If so, it's a bit of a weakness, but I also don't understand how someone into the story could choose that time of all places to fuck around with side stuff.
Jack Peterson
>takemura is besting you up, says you smell like shit >calls his boss and tells him he has his fathers killer >pass out, wake up >takemura is now being chased by killers, he gives you a gun >suddenly he’s on your side >pass out again >wake up >takemura begs you to tell his colleagues “what you told me, about arasaka jr killing his father”
They didn't even bothered with a revenge quest on abernathy. Such a shitshow
Jace Stewart
I didn’t get the call from Takemura to meet up for a few hours after waking up.
So the natural thing to do for me was look through my quest log and pick the simplest ones. Namely the “pick up reward money” from that asian lady for saving the woman from the scavs
Then Johnny gets triggered as I’m walking to her through the market
Chase Turner
Who were the writers?
Dominic Flores
Bad writing happened
Nicholas Martinez
If you're corpo, V makes a comment about how the bots sent to kill you are special corpo assassin bots. It happened pretty quickly, but he wakes you to possibly survive, then learns that Arasaka was trying to kill him. I assumed that you helping him and the assassins made him realize you weren't the killer and that his suspicions were correct.
Mason Roberts
Huh, I wonder what the trigger is. I feel like it was a straight line for me, but it was pretty late at night when I got to that part.
Charles Jackson
I wanted my V to be sympathetic to Arasaka but hate his boss for fucking him out of the corpo life. But then you talk to Takemura and start ranting how much you hate corpos and Takemura should too
Jonathan Foster
I'm blaming the diversity hires.. even if it isn't true. They don't deserve better but spite at this point.
Cooper Morris
Why sending agents to kill him ? What's the point ? He wasn't suspicious at all
Parker Myers
Yea, this made zero sense. They phoned this game in. No fucks were given.
Christopher Cox
haha yeah i have no idea what's happening i passed in ajunkyard and then some guy shoots the black guy that shot me? i dunno
Hunter Edwards
Lazy writing, lazy game. It's Game of Thrones final season tier.
Christian Fisher
It only makes narrative sense if you do the follow up mission in the diner right away, where he talks through what's going on and you come to terms somewhat. Which nobody does I assume.
>Cutscene where he mentally beats me and I put him to sleep with pills. >Next morning I go pick up my car from the garage >Taxi slams into me and totals the car >Suddenly Silverhand is riding shotgun >"You think that cab was acting strange, Johnny?"
>your character wants to become a living legend... because reasons. he literally explains that his biggest fear is to cease to exist with no one to remember him
Juan Price
>I thought I missed a cutscene or something You missed a ton of shit. my question is how.
David Gutierrez
this really confused me too, they never show V and Johnny go through this transition except one cutscene at the diner, even then it's of tossed aside. There should have been at least one mission of V and Johnny discussing what's happening.
From what I can tell Johnny doesn't realize he's in V's head at first. Then he finds out and wants to kill V. Then he realized he can use V to get back at Arasaka, so he wants V to do that while dangling the prospect of getting his brain fixed in front of him. But why wouldn't Johnny just want to take over Vs body completely? Why even pretend to want to help him instead of misleading him until he has control
Angel White
yes yes goyim but i need the names of these 2
Adrian Wilson
vanity aren't really stakes you can get invested in
Michael Anderson
Well he's basically a Ronin, with his lord being the enemy of the new one. I interpreted it as Arasaka the younger cleaning up the loose ties (Goro called him when he found you then the assassin bots show up shortly after to kill you both). I just figured it was a cleanup operation.
Aaron Cruz
anyone else thinks it makes absolutely no sense the V canonically does not smoke? every single piece of street trash smokes NO EXCEPTIONS
