He's not wrong. First Fallout has a bleak, depressing atmosphere while Fallout 2 is tonally inconsistent, especially with all the pop culture references the game is littered with.
It's such a shame that later games followed this path of wacky adventures in wasteland more or less instead of going back to the atmosphere the first game had.

Yeah. The first one felt almost like a horror game, when you first step out of the vault you have total freedom but even in the sunny desert there's first a feeling of being totally alone, and if you wonder off the beaten path and encounter something like a super mutant patrol at level 1 after a few encounters of taking damage from "the burning sun beating down on you" and having your ribcage blown out in one hit, it feels very hopeless.

This, never let the zoomers who started playing Fallout with 3 stop you from telling the truth. Revisionists fags like them are the worst.

Bleak + funny and goofy is great and pop references give it the Americano feel but the first two need to not nearly unplayable buggy messes and the newer ones just need to be less shit in general there's a ton of potential in the setting.

I'v played through the original fallout almost a dozen time but i have never gotten close to finishing fallout 2 because it just plain sucks
