Two good routes, two not so good ones. I enjoyed it overall though.

Gonna hop on the Aokana question. VN interests me, but I ended up dropping the anime around 4 episodes in.

Sanoba is special among yuzusoft works because it's the only one where there's an extended main route after a certain girl's route is over and it's the closest to a true route any of the games have. Senren Banka is pretty nice if you're into that old-japan aesthetic and supernatural shit while Aokana has heavy sports emphasis so get it if you're into that.
I liked 4 girls out of 6 in Senren Banka while I only really enjoyed 1 route out of the 4 in Aokana
The anime covers around most bits of the common route but the routes are where the potential is. But consider what I said above

Not that guy, but I found Aokana boring and annoying. If you're looking for a cute romance VN forget about it.
80% of the story is about the school club and racing events with flying shoes. You get like 3 actual scenes with a girl where the romance develops, then you fuck and it's happy end.

Also, this might be just me, but the writing seriously pissed me off. I didn't think it was possible to be this raging mad at a VN with no gameplay. Slight spoilers, but for most of the story your waifu gets the shit beaten out of her in every race and humiliated and toyed with by much stronger opponents until she gets enough practice by the end of the route to actually put up a fight. I honestly felt like getting cucked while reading lengthy descriptions of her getting her ass kicked over and over.

Aokana really depends on the route for your enjoyment.
The route I went for first was my favorite, and the only route I really liked. Fulfilled both a good sports story and romance imo.
Mashiro is so fucking terrible at everything that I'm not sure if I should be surprised or laughing at how she's the most popular heroine

Reading Japanese one, so I can try to learn Kanji. It's just slow since copy down the kanji I don't know in notepad so I can review them. It's called Shougun-sama wa Otoshigoro. Also this is better for me to learn since I fucking hate reading flashcards. Might as well make it fun

How much interactivity do you want in a vn? I swear 99% are dialogue choices at best. I really enjoy ones with more gameplay (danganronpa/ace attorney)

i don't even read VNs anymore. i can't read japanese but download the JP release and just click the text forward, interpreting the context based on each line's delivery. i make choices based on whim. i don't know whether these endings are good or bad. i don't know anything any more

Depends on the VN. If it's about battles and such, plenty of choices or actual gameplay.
If it's romantic VN, I don't really like dating mechanics, just let me pick a waifu and give me the heartwarming story. Don't want bad ends or missing out on story because I don't have high enough stats.
