It definitely was a huge tone shift. What’s strange is that the concept art showing the characters in the 2nd trailer was posted on steam when the game was announced (pic related). Don’t know why they didn’t just use the recent cast in the first trailer since they clearly planned on it from the get-go.

Several hundred. The amount of content and challenges isn't the issue. The core gameplay is great and has a high skill ceiling so after a while that was what kept me coming back.
Give it a shot. It's still alive.
Just be aware that the initial grind for weapons and hero levels really holds you back for the first dozen hours or two.

Nah its gonna be Chaos. 40k has just been reduced to Imperium vs Chaos. Fuck orks, fuck nids. The only threat to mankind is the power of Chaos. Anything else is just warm up for when Chaos arrives.
Which is sad because a horde of orks or gaunts with nobs/burna boys/kommandos or tyranid warriors/zoantropes/genestealers works great for this kind of game.
But nope, gotta be more Chaos shit.
Even fucking Age of Sigmar became more varied in its enemies. Chaos took a back seat with the Skeletal Undead then and now Dark Elves as enemies.
