Those of you with RTX graphics cards - Do you still think Ray Tracing is a meme?

yes, ill take the frames

i've used rtx a total of twice. the only way i think it could be utilized as an actual feature would be for games where you need to keep track of moving targets and reflections are a primary focus, i.e a thief game or a stealth game. rtx makes everything reflective and just looks retarded because no aaa company uses it right

depends on the game in cyberpunk its a meme since runs like shit obviously

as someone who does VFX work for the past 3 years, ray tracing is definitely not a meme.

only problem is that its always implemented poorly in video games.

In Cyberpunk it's a meme because the rest of the game looks absolutely subpar, and they managed to make it so V has no reflection. In competent games, even smaller ones like Ghostrunner, it can make a world of difference. It looked pretty good in Control too. It will be industry standard whether contrarians like it or not.

Yes, I don’t even noticed the difference and the one’s that are noticeable like reflections are just okay.

No, ill take the frames

Big time meme. Bought 2080 two years ago. Couldnt enjoy a single game that enabled rtx because of 50% performance dip.

I never thought it was a meme. RT Ultra all the time in CP2077

I got a 2080S back when it came out just because it was time to upgrade a 9 year old PC. The RTX wasn’t a factor in my purchase at all. I’ve tried it and find it to be the most overrated thing ever. Not worth the frames. It doesn’t look better or worse, jus”different”.

I think at this point lighting should be more emphasized in terms of being the next big advancement rather than polygon counts. RTX is a good step, but it's a bit underwhelming because of how hard it impacts performance.

actually polygon counts are already kinda worthless because how much the industry has moved towards storing geometry data in textures

they shouldn't use the raytracing for marketing, dlss seems better to show than that

...

3070 and fuck no
When I was walking on the sidewalk at night along a metal road barrier and as a car passed by the shadows of the bars casted on the sidewalk moved accurately as the car passed and I audibly moaned.

No, but if I have to decided between 160FPS and 80FPS I'll always turn it off.

Totally

it will be cool once we get out of the techdemo phase but that probably won't be for another 2 years. for now its just a hell of puddles and mirrors.

it is technically the next step in terms of actually simulating light physics, there's no way around it
it's just too expensive for it to be accessible to most people

Never worth the fps drop so no. Works well in minecraft though

>own 2080
Yes, it's more so to do with the fact it's performance cost isn't justifiable with how little change it actually makes over systems in place.

its not, playing 2077 and the city really comes alive with ray tracing at night\

this is where gaming will go next

FPBP

Maybe But given how hard cybermeme crutches on DLSS there's a pretty decent chance that lazy devs might go the route and hope DLSS can cover it instead of fixing their game.

In which case you'll still need an rtx card.

>I have a toaster
>Therefore everyone has a toaster
Stupid poorfaggot. Runs great on my machine.

once its achievable with better frames it wont be
i personally dont like releastic graphics but lighing can add so much to the atmosphere

It kills half of your fps for things barely no one would notice.
It's just an easy way for devs to not bother about good graphics.

>tfw 1080ti
Still holding out, but will definitely upgrade once a 3080 becomes available or the TI is announced. Dont really care for RT to be honest, But I do get a hard on when I see physx

realistic*

Ti got leaked today

Well shit, guess I know what im getting in a few months. The 1080ti is an amazing card but its starting to show its age, that or developers can't optimize for shit these days. Probably both desu

RT is an amazing technology but because reflections is only thing used properly in majority of games, it becomes a very expensive meme
