Basically "I have this, if you try anything your family will know and you'll be homeless after it all, we're doing a clean break and you get out of my life"
Luckily she was stupid and would have had to rely on her family for lawyer money if she tried to screw him, so it was just a lucky affair altogether, but innocent guys do get off clean if they use what they have to their advantage. And the court itself is the most disadvantageous place you can be so if you haven't won by the time you end up in the place, you fucked up.

So yeah to answer your question, no you can bet the court won't give a fuck about that if that's not the law of the land, but the people surrounding the case will.
