Never made a general before. I remembered guitar threads from a while ago and I noticed that people stopped making them. What're you guys playing? What's your favorite axe right now? Anything you've been wanting to buy?
Pic related is my guitar; it's a 2016 Gibson SG P90T
/rgt/ - Robot Guitar Talk
>TF FUCKING W YOU BUY GEAR ONLY TO CHANGE YOUR MUSIC TASTE LIKE A MONTH LATER AND NEED SOMETHING ENTIRELY ELSE FUCK FUCK FUCK GODDAMNIT
What kinda gear do you have, and what're you trying to play?
What would you recommend for the absolute begginer bro?
>had my sabbath phase, bought an epi sg special p90 similar to yours
>gets into electric wizard, buys rocker 15 terror and replaces my rg80s stock speaker with chinese v30 because i didnt know better
>stops playing a few months after that out of frustration and depression getting worse
>mental health declines
>not in the mood for ew anymore, now constantly listening to none, intig, crowbar, grief, monolord, godflesh
>rg80 broke for no reason
its like life wants to fuck you over. oh well. it got so bad that im just gonna use some random stuff i have here to rip dunkelheit.
I'm getting ready to make my first guitar. I glued up some poplar for a body and ordered flame maple for the neck.
I've always loved SGs but I think it will be a strat clone just because of the ease of finding dimensions and schematics.
Going to even wind my own pickups. Just waiting on some parts I don't have in the budget yet.
Guitars for beginners? If you don't have any gear I'd recommend getting a starter pack, preferably from Epiphone. Squier is alright but honestly most Squier guitars I've played have felt and sounded like shit.
The pack in pic related comes with a very good beginner guitar, and an absolute dogshit amp. So I would be mindful of what you're getting in the package, and maybe get a small used amplifier. Definitely play your guitar through the amp before you buy it so you don't regret your purchase. Might be a good idea to play the guitar before you buy it too, although I can personally vouch for it.
I am sticking to acoutstic for now since I just started playing a couple days ago.
Acoustic sounds comfy as fuck.
My main 2 guitars are a Carvin dc127 and a PRS custom 24 7 string
Rocksmith is good for learning the VERY basics of guitar like holding, picking, chording but it frustrated the hell out of me when it gives you note by note and after doing 5 variations of some insane finger-twist your find out its a simple barree chord
also cant recognize real playing, bending, its better to learn by ear
Another thing I'd recommend for a beginner is the used market. I got a rickenbacker 4003 for 200 off of craigslist.
Pirate BIAS or something. It's a really good amp sim, and it can even emulate other guitars. Definitely don't toss your gear tho it's nice. Stay positive, user.
Rocksmith is fun and can help with learning songs. Definitely not a replacement for actual lessons though. I was mainly recommending the pack because the guitar is very easy for beginners to play. It even comes stringed up with 8s right out of the box so new players can play with a bit less pain.
Forgot to mention this. The pack I recommended has been out for a while now, so you might be able to find the guitar that's included by itself on reverb.com or something. Either way if you get this specific guitar/pack, shop around for an amplifier. Clear tone right off the bat will definitely motivate you to play more and make your playing more enjoyable.
thanks man. already blew my money on a boss me80 for fx but it does most stuff satisfactory, getting some crushing bolt thrower tones with it
I feel like I just memorize where fingers are supposed to go like a robot or something instead of actually learning songs for every song i know, when someone asks me to play, after the few usual songs (stairway, shape of my heart, babe I'm gonna leave you, blackbird...) i have no idea about what to do but to play some random chords from a random key or make a shitty improvisation on the major and relative scale, I think I've been learning everything wrong the entire time, anyone else is like this?
improv is for asian kids and jazz faggots who cant play in key, ripping riffs is what does it for me.
>bought the Epiphone starter pack 6 months ago
>finally going to upgrade the amp to a Fender Champ 20
I'm giddy just thinking of it.
I play bass with a buddy who plays guitar and sings almost every weekend.
Last week we covered Little Wing by Hendrix :)
nah dude you doing it right, playing chords and laying phrases that fit is like the whole point. also jam to backing tracks and just add exercises to your regime to start shredding that neck
I'm currently making my old squier into a superstrat. My SG is great and all, and I even have a fender strat, but I really do want a nice crunchy humbucker tone as well as turning my first guitar into something cool that I still want to play. Pic related.
I have a cheap Chinese piece of shit strat that weighs nothing and a nameless Japanese SG copy from the 70s.
Improv is fun and can help you come up with melodies and chord progressions. It's also one of the best things you can do to learn more about all the different sounds you can make with your guitar.
if you dont play an epiphone just kys
I kinda like my Solid Guitars (TM) to actually be solid. Also what kinda fag tries to shit one someone's guitar because it's nicer than the one you have
Are there any good guitar lessons online, especially on youtube, that any guitar anons here can recommend for a beginner.
I know basic pentatonic scales and a few notes, but aside from that, don't know much and would really like to into guitar.
Nice. I thought about upgrading a few guitars but decided making my own would be more of a fun challenge. Been research making the pickups myself for awhile and I'm 99% confident I can wind them myself.
Just waiting on a few more sales to but supplies.
I used to watch a lot of Marty Music videos when I was first starting out. Although I honestly think you need to be critiqued in real time in order to improve technique-wise. Videos are mainly useful for learning scales, songs, and other general things that don't get into avoiding developing bad habits in your playing. Because you will try to cheat as a new player and it will hurt you. In person lessons are best but something like discord would also work even though it's a bit more difficult. I can make one if you guys are interested.
I have a vintage v100 I bought like ten years ago. Recently had a tech change the tuning heads on it and he said the tone was actually really nice on it considering he has something like four grands worth of guitars and that thing cost me two hundred.
They seem to be worth a lot more now.
I've wanted to get a jackson v for a while now but I don't play a lot these days.
Made a server anyway. I don't think this counts as an invite thread but I'm honestly not clear on the rules regarding that. I'm enjoying this thread and would appreciate not being banned if any jannies see this.
Invite is: bBPVmGU8fQ
Yeah buying parts is a bitch. I'm trying to get an Angus Young signature humbucker for my squier, along with a P90 for the middle, and a Seymour Duncan hot rail for the neck. What're you thinking of buying?
Don't know much about that guitar or Jackson in general. What kinda tones would you get out of that thing? Also never too late to pick it back up!
>ruins your thread
this was a pain in the cock to upload here because muh 2 mb
>tfw my bass tone sounds fucking kickass
Feels good to have this.
Not sure, it depends on what end up making. I'm thinking about buying the coil winding machine and 42 gauge wire today while I order other stuff on Amazon.
Naisu. I've been wanting to learn bass for a while but basically know nothing about it. Any recommendations? The Epiphone Thunderbird looked pretty nice to me.
I wanna wind them myself but I'm nervous I'd fuck it up and waste money. Same story with connecting everything.
It's pretty basic stuff to wind them and long as you keep the wire tension constant.
What about connecting the controls and output?
