Electric cars and automated vehicles are not the solution to America's transportation problems. For large, dense cities, personal transportation for everyone is simply not viable, we need to improve our public transport networks. Even for smaller towns, having a rail link to a major city and a decent bus network can both ease traffic and make said town a more appealing place to live. Obviously more rural areas can't be effectively served by public transport, but requiring everyone outside of a couple cities to have a car to get anywhere is not healthy for this country, and has to stop.
