It's our crap electoral system (FPTP) that barely passes the criteria for being called a "democracy". Britain has it as well which is why they're always stuck with the same crappy two-parties.
Ireland and New Zealand seem to have one of the best democracies because theey have PR-STV which is far more democratic then America. But corporate America isn't going to be too interested in changing to PR-STV anytime soon considering it's far easier to control the outcome in FPTP.
