what's your biggest discovery?

Your mom

Are all ancient and modern native americans descendants of Beringians?

Nothing mega ground breaking, I found a glass bead from the Iron Age once that I was very pleased with. I've seen coin hoards and the like on sites but never gotten to work on something like that. Cucked lol. I've dug human remains before also which was weird, pretty interesting tho.

tbh I had to google beringians so I ain't an expert hah. I would imagine almost entirely? But I bet in Eastern North America there was admixture from Europeans that made it there before Columbus. I think there's evidence for Europeans making it there in the Neolithic, then the Vikings and potentially Irish and others after that.

Of course lots of those Eastern native groups are now extinct so who knows?

How big are holes?

Depends what you've been putting in there

How does someone get into this particular field? Army-fag looking for a way out

Did you get taught racial difference in anatomy?

Diferrent on a country to country basis really, it might be necessary to have a degree in it where you are. In other places it's less stringent. Some of my pals working on sites in Ireland have no formal education in it but managed to get in while companies needed workers. When in doubt bulk up your CV about historical interest etc. Army is a good too cos being able to hold a shovel and do manual labour is key. So many people get broken when they realise that.

As an Anthropologist/Folklorist I thank you for your selected discipline. Forensic Anthropology is fascinating and I’ve always wanted to work with archaeologists in a stagnant bog. Like Tolense.

God speed, Brother.

No, nothing like that. I do remember in a course I took on human evolution the lecturer put forward the theory that Australia may have been first settled by a pregnant woman drifting over there on a piece of drift wood and repopulating from there because there's no evidence for aboriginals ever having any sort of sea faring. I still lol at that.

Another thing from that class I remember was them saying they're now reconsidering a lot of ancient human- sub species and lumping a lot of them in together as one. My guess is this is because going on the grounds that they were deemed seperate species in the past, there would be several species of human on the planet now.

I took a folklore class in my last year of college. Wish I had done more as it was fascinating. I'm reading more about it now jusst for personal interest these days.

I haven't done bog/ wetland work yet but it sounds like hell haha, wintertime at least

What country? Site? Year?

Don't you feel like a grave robber?
I mean, some guy dies, his family in tears burying their beloved husband, grandpa, brother.
And there you are, 500 years later: chop chop, out with him and his burial items.

Hey op want coordinates to an undiscovered Native American camp not far from where they fought a civil war battle. I have found an arrowheads, pottery and dimes from pre 1840

I have four questions.
Is that a real job?
How do i jobbing it?
How is coronachan fucking up your hobby?
Are you lowkey from Zig Forums ?

when was your first boner?

Whats the weirdest thing you've found?

biggest bone you ever handled?

Grave robbery kind of but more so look at it as a time capsule. I mean we aren’t using our bodies anymore nor do we have need for our earthly material goods.

Burials are comfort for the family, not the dead. The dead have no need for anything from the living.

Finding tombs from over 2000 years is a gold mine of history.

Kind of. I used to be more utilitarian and atheistic about it. "no one knows who they are or can trace themselves to them so it's all good" type attitude.
Nowadays I'd say I'm still in favour of excavation but for later reburial, which is never really the case now, except maybe with native americans.

It is a real job, I've been at it 2 years or so.

Look up archaeologial companies where you live, see if theyre hiring. How dificult getting into it is very diferrent country by country. If you're a NEET see about volunteering on a site, experience is more valuable than a degree.

Coronachan has shut down all sites here (Ireland) though they're starting to re-open slowly now.

I haven't been on this site in years because it sucks, this seemed like a fun way to kill an evening though. I did used to go on pol tho lol

My own.
Probably big cattle bones lol

Sounds cool but there's not much I could do with that info haha

OP here, back after I eat dinner if it doesn't 404

The most odd/strange/mysterious object you dug up?

Is it mostly boring? How many days out of your 700+ days have you actually been entertained?
Do you actually do anything like pic in OP or are you the guy who moves dirt around?

Just thought you wanted a big break. I also believe it’s the farthest north the Spanish traveled

>listen to me to get rich

how do you explain why I can find arrowheads and other artifacts 6 to 12 inches underground but geologists claim 5 miles of sediment has washed away? All I ever see is accumulations of the past being buried, not revealed.
