Capital presupposed wealth/assets that are used for the sole purpose of generating new wealth (rather than consumption or simple exchange)
For this you need large unified market spaces and the existence of private property (including land) as a legal category that is subject to commercial sale and purchase, and arguably industrialisation as well (to meet demand across large market spaces) which presupposes the commercialisation of labour too.
Cavemen economies far more closely resembled socialism than capitalism, first of all because resources were distributed in a centralised fashion by the chief of the tribe.
Second of all, land could not be freely bought or sold by individuals or corporations for most of human history.

There were plenty of primitive capitalist societies, and capitalism does not necessarily mean the end goal is to generate new wealth/assets. It is a strategy to best satisfy unlimited wants with limited resources.
Plenty of native american civilizations were capitalist, as well as early islanders (see Yap), and some early societies in the Caucasus region.
