Businesses can make their own rules, some are stupid, and people just stop going there.

There was a lock down in march, but then we opened up. Then once testing increased and the bump happened that showed that many people already had the disease, the gov got panicky and shut down again. But now that's pretty much done with.

To be fair, we're on our 5th Health minister, so things aren't without issues and controversy, but it has become clear down here that the shut-down is not helping rates or the economy and since we need the economy, the populace is kind of resisting more close downs or mask rules.

You seem to think that "Masks work" = masks completely prevent COVID spread. That's not true, and nobody thinks that.

Masks work, in the sense that they reduce the R0.
Masks don't reduce R0 to below 1, though.

R0 is the basic reproduction rate of the virus, and refers to the number of people the average infected person will spread the virus to.
If the R0 of COVID is below 1, the virus will slowly die off and we will be victorious. For example, if the average infected person spreads COVID to 0.5 other people (or in other words - if one in two COVID-infected people spread the virus to one other person, and every other COVID-infected person doesn't spread the virus at all), then the virus dies off eventually.
If the R0 of COVID is above 1, it will infect more and more people and infection rates will grow exponentially until herd immunity is developed. The greater the R0, the faster the spread and the quicker things get out of control.

Because masks reduce R0 (say, from 4 --> 2), they're a useful part of containing the virus and controlling the spread.

But masks don't entirely reduce R0 to below 1, and for that reason, mask-wearing alone isn't enough to open the motherfucking economy.

Ameritards don't understand nuance, though; which is why you guys are in this mess in the first place.
