Assault rifles and assault weapons are 100% legal to own and operate. It's only illegal to sell them and a republican introduced THAT bill.

People who know what theyre talking about don't call what's available to the average citizen assault rifles because the vast majority of them aren't capable of automatic fire (alot of people don't seem to know this). However the assault weapons ban created the new term, and what's considered an assault weapon is based on what accessories it has. So yea when Biden and his ilk say "assault weapons" they're playing on the general public's ignorance and with their loose definition.

I don't have an M1 or M14, but I love my M1A. shoots very nice.
I don't really find a difference between straight stocks and pistol grips for shooting, but handling, like on a sling, is much easier with a pistol grip. I assume a pistol grip makes a big difference on automatic fire as well but I haven't noticed a difference on rapid fire

If you're going to defend your family and your life with a firearm, it's natural to want what works best.
An AR-15 is better than a pistol in every single way apart from concealability.
Rifles are easier and faster to aim that rifles, especially at lower skill levels, they are more intimidating that pistols and a single shot of .223 or 5.56 center mass is far more likely to stop a man than any pistol caliber.
