No, because we colonised the majority of Africa, asset-stripped the wealth of the nations, demolished all government, replacing them with governors and appointed staff from the various colonising powers.
Alongside that, in plenty of cases we committed atrocities on a vast scale - the mass murder in the Belgian congo, for instance.

and then in the 50's, 60's and 70's, we withdrew entirely, leaving power vacuums and no local government officials to administrate nation-states, because the local population had been excluded from government. The result? Civil Wars, Genocides, insane dictators rising to power all over the place, and all the shit that's happened over the last 50-70 years.

my academic field is in medieval and western european history (not saying more than that, it would be easy to ID me as its very specialised.) But it does mean study in history in general, which rather results in a fairly good understanding of some of the really interesting cultures around the world - Sogdians of pre-islamic persia, the Mali and the economic influence they had on the world at that time, and all sorts of interesting shit.

All of those countries Were fucked by invasion. Africa only stopped getting fucked less than 100 years ago after all the colonial powers had to give up Africa. All the countries you mentioned spent a significant period of time in recovery.

Third, those various invasions weren’t colonization with the express intent of harvesting natural resources at the expense of the populace. Most of those were attempts to conquer and integrate new territory into an Empire. The Colonial powers had no intention of letting the Africans ever be part of any of their societies, or of moving there themselves. An Empire can’t rule a mountain of corpses, but a capitalist society has no intention of ruling. Simply taking what they want and leaving.
