Meanwhile, on RYM
They also are known to rate derivative metal and rap albums very high too.
But the highest rated metal albums from this year are good. Also, calling hip hop derivative is redundant, since the genre is built on stealing other's music.
Give me one good reason why I should use RYM or give a fuck what anyone on it says. I'll wait. Infact give me a good reason as to why art critics should have a job. Because the way I see it, they're all fucking hacks who do a job that most of the general population already does anyway.
classification of music you listened to, so if someone on Zig Forums asks "recommend me some oceanic grunge albums!" you can go to your RYM profile and quickly check which oceaning grunge albums you liked most
Critics have a job because most people don't feel like listening to everything that comes out and would rather trust someone else's opinion on what's worth listening to
It's just for looking at an artists' discography. Making an account to rate things is pointless.
I use it to keep track of artists I like. I listen to a lot of new music and after ten to twenty thousand albums it helps to have a list to remember the stuff that left a good impression on you after the first listen.

you need a website to help you remember which albums you like from a genre? excuse me??? hello...????
>t. tourist who doesn't listen to anything except Zig Forums core
The charts on rym are unironically great for discovering music, especially if you're interested in a particular genre and don't know where to begin.
if I wanted to know about rym, i would go there. but i dont
stop bringing that stupidity here
you're supposed to find a critic you agree with the most and then listen to what they say is good. you can then form your own opinion and it's ok if you disagree with their assessment but hopefully you'll agree a lot of the time and it will mean you discover good music faster. why do people think the point of a critic is to tell you what to think the point is to try to help you find things you enjoy and waste as little time as possible with things you don't enjoy. they're like a filter you just have to find one that filters out what you think bad and leave what you think good most of the time.
>listen to what they say is good
People actually do this?
if an album is considered Zig Forumscore it makes me not want to listen to it actually. i also don't listen to certain albums just to keep up appearances, perhaps you should try :-)
Try what mongoloid? People listen to the music they like. If you've heard 3,000 albums there is nothing wrong with using something to help remember the better ones. You're the only one trying to keep up appearances you pathetic fuck.
make a profile and post it once u have enough ratings so i can make fun of your shit taste
never gonna make it
>Give me one good reason why I should use RYM
to discover, catalogue, and potentially rate music
>give a fuck what anyone on it says
you shouldnt, the communal aspect of rym is trash, i never interact with anyone there
The worst part about that website is you might ignore some artists most underrated work because some of plebs ratings, discogs is much more reliable
Discogs sucks, dude. Just don't worry about the ratings. What kind of a sheep are you?
music catalog/archive was a thing even before you were born
no, because whenever i decide to check out an artist, i listen to all of their work because im not a retard
>Discogs sucks, dude
If you don't care about the ratings like you say, the Discogs is better than RYM in every way.
Who do you think you're impressing?
RYM has a much larger number of unique titles. It's not really even a comparison.
ok lol
>there are people who dont do this
Overrated as fuck. noticed they stopped allowing comments for it too lol

On December 2018, Rate Your Music indexes over 3,700,000 releases by over 1,255,000 artists
Discogs currently contains over 11.6 million releases, by over 6 million artists, across over 1.3 million labels
I literally just bothered to check about twenty different obscure artists, and literally none of them were on discogs, whereas I know for a fact they have RYM pages. Those numbers are skewed in some way.
