You're right, local music is always better than not. I'm glad I have such a diverse and strong scene in my hometown of... Visalia. Most places have trash local music, there's a reason musicians are trying to "make it" and why there's like four good bands given any genre or movement.

My scene used to be ok, but the only bands that get support anymore are bands that sound like modern alternative shit on the radio, pretty frustrating

almost half way through Face Stabber now. shaping up to be one of those bands that has consistently 6/10 songs but it never gets better than that. i hope I'm wrong and don't immediately forget this album

As someone who spent some time in Arkansas and passed through Wyoming/Montana, smaller city local scenes are an absolute joke. What little creativity there is is stifled by a peer pressure style round table that determines what is ‘in.’
Same thing will happen in larger cities but that usually has to do with politik.

The strokes also set the bar for the next twenty years of rock music.
