Reaper is the most based DAW, prove me wrong

not some reaper dick sucker, but the evaluation period on reaper doesn't end. it's like winrar in that it will give you a notification upon opening for like 5 seconds and it will close, then all features are available.
What kind of effects does it have/is it vst compatible? Can it handle midi? Can effects be automated?
It's great when I've used it but I already know ableton front to back so I dont want to shoehorn learning new software into my creative flow
> What kind of effects does it have
Has most of the basic effects built in, compression, saturation, delay, reverb etc but you can add other plugins if you need more.
> vst compatible
Yes
> Can it handle midi
Yes
> Can effects be automated
Yes
Yep, the exact position I’m in. If there’s a working crack for 10 that will work on Catalina (macfag) I haven’t seen it. I’m curious about how different Reaper is.
>What kind of effects does it have
it has decent stock plugins. but you can also get most of them separate / for free (reaplugs)
>is it vst compatible?
any competent daw is
>Can it handle midi?
of course, I'm not the biggest fan of it's piano roll, personally, but yes, it can handle midi
>Can effects be automated?
yes
Does it have MIDI controls?
Yes
Logic mogs the shit out of your poorfag nerd programmer toy
Why?
logic doesn't have native VST support. You have to use a wrapper which only works for VSTs for mac os. Its built in plugins and samples are better but $200 (the price of logic) can get you some pretty damn good VSTs for reaper (assuming you dont just want to pirate them.)
You forgot
>used by 0 professionals whos music you listen to
Holy fuck you're right lmao
I listen to tycho though
Who gives a shit?
i use audacity
midi is reapers Achilles heel. Pro Tools or Ableton will allow for better midi editing, but if you're talented and a real musician reaper is otherwise good.
any plugin worth anything is also available in AU format
>b-but muh old ass broken wangblows plugins with ugly ass ui
Can anyone recommend a clean intuitive Reaper skin?
Ooh, that looks super clean! Thanks fren.
[Narrator]
The DAW was actually quite average if not subpar in some areas, but it was free and had /g/ constantly jerking themselves off over it, so user was pressured into liking it.
The real best DAW was a tie between Reason and Ableton, but no one wanted to admit it.
>What kind of effects does it have
On its own, right out if the box? Not jack shit. There's a pretty good EQ, that's it.
>/is it vst compatible?
Compatible with everything under the sun basically
>Can it handle midi?
"Yes." Poorly. That piano roll is borderline unusable.
>Can effects be automated?
Yes. Anything with a knob or slider can be automated with MIDI learn.
>does it habe middy?
I don't remember Zig Forums being this tech illiterate. When did this happen?
its better than winrar, you can literally toss away the notification and use the program, you dont have to even close it. imagine how bro is this reaper DAW.
but all current "professional" music is shit though? why would that matter.
they always have been though
>"Yes." Poorly. That piano roll is borderline unusable.
Why?
It has most effects you could need out of the box, maybe you can get better effects third party depending on what you want to do, but they should be acceptable for most users. I like that reapers default plugins don't have some horrible UI that tries to mimic analog equpment from the 70s.
It's incredibly tedious. Arranging MIDI in that thing is like building a strip mall out of Lincoln Logs. It can handle MPE though, which is really cool. It's just not pleasant to deal with.
That's a pretty good synopsis for REAPER as a whole, really: quite capable, but not very pleasant to use.
Reaper's strengths are customization, modularity, compatibility, stability, and its light weight. But all those things are tangential to its core task: making music. The experience of actually using it to make music is just okay.
That's why Zig Forums loves it so much, it's better for tinkering than actually doing anything with it. Also, it's free and if you choose to pay for it, it's dirt cheap.
>It has most effects you could need out of the box
None of them are really good, though. Everything is as bare-bones as possible.
What things doesn't it do well? I assumed all midi editors worked basically the same way. Only DAWs I have used is old FL studio in 2007 when it had a different name, reaper and cubase a few times.
