Because making creative art is correlated with a wide range of different neurodivergences. You'd probably find it's not just trans/non-binary people but also people with schizoid personality disorder, asperger's, bipolar, severe OCD etc. who make particularly original music.

They aren't genre-pioneering but they're still a lot more creative and different than what else is in that genre. SOPHIE basically started a new era of electronic dance-pop, 100 gecs are starting a new generation of that mixed in with other influences, Arca contributed to starting a new era of experimental electronic/IDM, Vektroid contributed to starting a new vaporwave-derived aesthetic (though IMO while missing what made Eccojams good), Sewerslvt contributed to a dark aesthetic-driven revival of drill 'n' bass (which IMO is more aesthetic than music), and I don't know the other one but should probably listen to it.

They're all worthy of recognition at the very least. Even including the two I don't really like, they're all actual artists, unlike 99% of people who release music.

I wrote and largely agree (except about the solo work) but I think you're wrong about Dylan, he's definitely a big part of 100 gecs but Laura is also a big part. Dylan carries some of the bass instrumentation but Laura carries a lot of the more organic-feeling qualities. They're very synergistic.

Machine Girl is also nonbinary iirc. WLFGRL is great

It came out before face shopping but pretty much. It's just SOPHIE's music sounds pretty samey by itself. They need someone who's actually talented in delivery to be able to carry their instrumentals. It's why playboi carti works so well on pierre bourne's beats but pierre's solo music is just kinda hit or miss.

I can agree with most of this but Sewerslvt isn't doing anything new or anything that hasn't been consistently done by plenty of soundcloud and bandcamp artists for the past decade and a half. Breakcore has been chugging along consistently, and if any artist is responsible for the boom in popularity with a newer, younger fanbase, it would undoubtedly be Machinegirl, and whoever is still making music that they call "hardvapor" (gabber and jungle influenced electronic music for people who have never known what to call those genres)

How is listening to music promoting anything. If you can't listen to music by people you think are mentally ill do you refuse to listen to the beach boys or pink floyd or Daniel Johnston or Nick Drake too?

I agree to an extent (especially now that SOPHIE's style isn't as fresh as it was back when PRODUCT came out) but I think she's getting better over time and has several very high-quality solo songs that are a lot less sterile-feeling than some of the previous stuff while still being super rhythmic and possessing that characteristic crystal clear sound quality and mixing.

Yeah, I maybe didn't hint at it strongly enough but among that list I have by far the lowest opinion of Sewerslvt and really think it's mostly aesthetic and effects rather than music. The actual compositional quality is very generic and uninteresting to me, and frankly I really just don't like the music at all. But at the same time I can't deny the influence, given all the threads and what seems to be some new stuff inspired by it, and I can kind of understand some of the aesthetic appeal even if I'm not drawn to it (and plus in general I care way more about the more "mathematical" parts of the raw music). Machinegirl is definitely a better example, though.

You can't reduce Black Dresses or 100 gecs to that. Edgy bubblegum is probably an accurate description in part, but you could say Death Grips is edgy hip-hop, Arca is edgy "organic signals" / IDM-hop, etc. Edginess is pretty orthogonal to actual musical, artistic, and creative quality. An "edgy comedian" can be a horrible shitty hack or one of the greatest of all time, depending on who you're talking about. And I have no idea how you could like Sewerslvt's music more than those twos'.
