"I don't use streaming services. If there's something I want, I'll go out and get it. What do I need access to ten million awful songs for? The complete discography of the Kaiser Chiefs? I wouldn't have that stuff in my house under any circumstance. What do I need 20 different live Foo Fighters gigs for?"

He's kind of right though

I'm not against buying physical copies of stuff, in fact I encourage it, but to dismiss streaming services entirely is a bit dumb. Sometimes you don't know if you'll like the music or not, and if you don't have a lot of disposal income it can be a huge waste of money to pay full price for something you might hate.

Based

While what he said was obviously hyperbolic and a generalizatio, the point he was making is streaming services lower the barrier of entry for musicians and the result is 80 percent of music you find online is generic and uninspired. And he's kind of right

This just proves he's a pleb. Spotify miraculously has obscure jazz albums that I can't get physical copies of off eBay or amazon.

I agree about the lower standards of music because of streaming, but in terms of the customer and purchasing of music I disagree. If I had to purchase all the music I listened to I'd be broke and wouldn't discover many bands and artists I love.

>Spotify miraculously has obscure jazz albums that I can't get physical copies of off eBay or amazon.
For every one of those, there's probably 20 more albums that aren't on streaming at all.

I disagree.

>For every one of those, there's probably 20 more albums that aren't on streaming at all.
There's literally barely any music left that's not on spotify at this point

"what, you guys aren't rich enough to purchase a physical copy of every album you would ever want to listen to?"

>use streaming service of choice to conviently have access to a massive majority of western music released in the last 70 years
>purchase anything you want in high quality
>buy everything else
it's seriously that simple

Name 10 albums that aren't on Spotify.

You can't.

Potato

joanna newtom and mbv discographies, new order’s substance, chet baker live in tokyo, most of ringo and godley & creme discographies

BTFO

Like?

Name an obscure jazz album not on spotify.
You literally can't.

Zoomers brains are so corrupted by technology they literally cannot fathom a world without their prescious streaming services

Spotify has salmost nothing I listen to. Do you guys not go through record labels entry-by-entry on discogs?

If it's not on spotify it's basically not worth hearing.

@96913371
lol

>listen to whatever you want on YouTube for free
>purchase what you actually want or just download the files for free
this shit was solved in 2010 why do we need Spotify

The entire Supercar, Morning Musume, Bellring Shoujo Heart, and STU48 discographies. That's more than 10 albums on its own.

it's insane how much music is out there

there's only one machester guy that's actually quotable. not this shit

Playing music locally is like opening the fridge to get some milk for your chai.
Streaming music is like driving 20min to the supermarket everytime you need milk for your chai.

They also lower the barrier to entry for fans. If you didn't grow up pre-Napster you don't even know how much harder it was to find out about music back then, how hard it was listen to a random song you wanted to hear but didn't own, or how expensive it could be just to check out different artists.

>I've heard good things about this band
>Buy their CD
>It fucking sucks

That was frequently how music was in the 90s

You’re an idiot

This is all such a non debate. The idea streaming services aren’t great for people who want to listen to music is fucking ridiculous. The only people it’s bad for are people running music labels.

Yeah, and that's also why we were all apart of subcultures back then. We shared CDs physically and heard about new artists and music from our friends and they heard about new shit from their friends. It was honestly better back then

Social networks definitely played an important role in sharing music, but if you suddenly wanted to listen to a bunch of Polish darkwave bands, or lived in a small town, good fucking luck.

this guy gets it.
also with streaming, if you're somewhere you can't get internet for whatever reason, you're fucked

Because I don't want to waste time travelling to the store , hope they have what I want and then have to convert a CD into MP3 files.

This would be a great analogy if Spotify's servers were on Mars.

>but if you suddenly wanted to listen to a bunch of Polish darkwave bands, or lived in a small town, good fucking luck.
And then forget about it in a week. That's the point we're trying to make.

Does anybody else love having multiple different versions of the same song and listening to them all in a playlist? Like original version, 2 live versions, acoustic version, 2 cover versions from youtube etc.

It seems like a highly autistic thing to do, but I do it often.

>darkwave

Sorry, I meant coldwave. I don't think there were many (if any) Polish darkwave bands in the 90s

Yeah, maybe you like some of it, maybe you didn't, maybe you never listen to it again. But you still got to hear it and experience it.

Are you going to complain about how easy it is to see movies now too compared to the pre home video days, or the modern streaming era of movies?

yeah if you had shit for brains lmao
