The whole point of "metalheads are peaceful" is that because the music is so aggressive, it's meant as a way to vent your frustrations in a healthy way, like exercising. It's better than having pent up energy all the time and displacing it on people while being a rap or kpop fan.
I don't know what you mean by "pushovers", if you're talking about being in fights, that depends on the person. However, those people who generally say that metal is peaceful, are usually peaceful themselves, they aren't faggot hotheads who like to show off by being a complete asshole.
That being said... there's a whole slew of repressed and frustrated metalheads who are extremely insecure about, well a lot of things, so they try way to hard to look "cool" or "tough" online, these people are usually what people call elitists, not because of their music taste, but by how they go about addressing other people's opinions or ideas in generally childish ways. These people are just sad individuals, they don't fit into society so they try to make a very social hobby, like being into metal, and turn it into this closed off treehouse club for insecure virigns who like to trash on any other genres besides metal, while people like myself and other famous metal musicians and bands aren't sheep, and they can like other shit like jazz, pop, industrial, rap or whatever, because they aren't insecure.
