If you don't know music theory, you're not a real musician

You care a lot about titles and labels don't you?

How many fucking times do we have to go over this. Music theory will help you understand music on a deeper level but it won't make you creative.

theory stifles creativity because you think of music in technical terms as opposed to FEELING it

Not true btw bc a shitty musician is still a musician

and a try hard wanker is also still a musician.

Having no idea what your doing isn't the same as being creative

fuck you dad

What if God is speaking through my music?

But I do have an idea of what I am doing because I am making it sound good.

If you know music theory you fucking virgin and nerd

I don't believe in an interventionist God, but if I did I would kneel down and ask him not to intervene when it came to your music

music is not reducible to formalization

'knowledge' of 'theory' is not knowing a taxonomy of names of things
ill bet the most illiterate of musicians knows more theory than you cux

Yes it is.

>art theory stifles creativity because you think of paintings/drawing in technical terms as opposed to FEELING it
yeah just FEEL your way into good art, like Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Michelangelo, Picasso, and all the greatest artists immortalized by history. You'll be making the music equivalent of stick figure doodles.

>'knowledge' of 'theory' is not knowing a taxonomy of names of things
correct. when did OP ever imply this?

picasso became great by rejecting art theory tho

You can't reject theory if you don't learn theory

well not learning theory is in essence rejecting it

like van gogh for instance

This is fundamentally the same argument between christians and atheists. Not all christians are good people, but all atheists are evil and may they burn in Hell.

this

But then you don't know why you're rejecting it.

Which is exactly why I never bothered to learn.

I just make music to have fun I don't care if I'm real or not.

As a whole of course not. I don't agree with the OP but to pretend however that there aren't elements of music subject to it is foolish.

well to be fair art is a lot different than music as conceptualization is more valued in that platform. Music is more based in math and therefore you need a general idea of what to do on your instrument/composition. but theres also merzbow and vaporwave/plunderphonics and all these musics existing on the basis of its concept. so i guess you would be rejecting it because what made music appealing centuries ago has become old hat and boring. at the end of the day people make what they find beautiful or relatable and that has very little to do with theory.

Do you FEEL your rectum prolapse when I pull my dick out?

way after mastering it.
no it's not. It's being primitive.
There's a difference between mindfully breaking conventions and just drawing shitty doodles or making shitty music that sounds like noise

Visual art is as much if not more governed by mathematics, what is pleasing to the eye being dictated by simple geometry.

you probably hate warhol then

>Music is more based in math and therefore you need a general idea of what to do on your instrument/composition
don't let that "but muh picasso rejecting rules" user fool you. Art can be as much about math as music is.
>merzbow and vaporwave/plunderphonics
these all use music theory. Whether the composer is aware of it or not, DAWs and sampling machines have built-in tools that abstract away a lot of the use of theory. People just think that theory is the opposite of using your ear first, which is just as retarded as thinking art theory is the opposite of using your eyes first.

I don't hate him but he's definitely overrated as fuck. His pop art was like his generation's equivalent of vaporwave

no offense to artists but i dont think theres a schoenberg equivalent but then again all i know about art theory is proportions and vanishing points shit like that the golden ratio or w.e

theory based music is more cerebral where as music made with the ear first as you say is more immediate. i doubt knowing the history of the aeolian mode ever helped anyone make a vaporwave track which is basically what theory is
