What's your honest opinion on him?
What's your honest opinion on him?
FAT
UGLY
DEAD
A decent pop rock songwriter, stands out from his grunge peers for his somewhat ecletic influences and pretty face
do you think if he was ugly he would have a different treatment?
Yes, but im not saying as if it's an unfair thing, humans are visual creatures it's a natural thing
i agree with you
Extreme narcissist. Morally bankrupt, intellectually underdeveloped, wildly disingenuous in every aspect of how he lived his life. I don't think his suicide was inevitable, but it's a perfectly understandable thing for someone like him to do to themselves.
Musically, a perfect, immaculate mediocrity, which is why Nirvana blew up the way they did. You can't be too much of anything if you're looking to make it big with the masses, and your style must trump your substance. In this respect, Nirvana were constructed immaculately, with the perfect balance of an alternative(but not TOO alternative, not too much to be alienating for the average pop dullard in the way so many other alternative bands were) image and mildly entertaining(but very vapid) songwriting superimposed with a sonic signature that admittedly wasn't the standard for mainstream rock music at the time(while, again, not being TOO out there, or really out there at all) but was still very easily digestible.
What happened to Nirvana really could have only happened to Nirvana. Jane's Addiction were comically superior to Nirvana, but they were also too eccentric for the commoners. Sonic Youth were too NYC. Dinosaur Jr. were too aloof. The Afghan Whigs were too smutty, too adult. The Flaming Lips were too explicitly psychedelic.
It paid off to be a mediocrity propped up by little more than your own sense of self-importance and your audience's comically low standards. It still does, really. If it didn't, I wouldn't be forced to know who Phoebe Bridgers and Weyes Blood were.
What's this board obsession with the most pseudocultural tv pumped music personalities,
Why dont you fucking look at the 1000 other threads about this guy. They might even talk about his music too!
I'm a /sp/ tourist lad, don't need to be aggressive
The music is fun but his politics was filled with hypocrisy. They knew exactly what they where doing with Nevermind yet they claimed it didn't sound how they wanted it to sound, despite going all the way to L.A to record the album. The pretended to be anti mainstream but fully embraced MTV and pop culture. They wanted to be punk rock but their biggest influences where The Beatles, Zeppelin and Aerosmith, the antithesis of punk. N.I.N had a vastly superior take on angst and alienation than Nirvana and with zero bullshit approach on top of that.
Worth pointing out that NIN also did next to no promotional TV performances once they blew up because Reznor genuinely didn't want to oversaturate the band and himself(something that Cobain was also constantly saying and yet constantly kept playing late night shows and MTV specials while also agreeing to every magazine cover he was offered). They played at the VMAs in 1999 and that was it.
>They played at the VMAs in 1999 and that was it.
Also, this was almost definitely something they were pressured into doing by Interscope because The Fragile initially underperformed.
Feel kind of bad for him. It seemed like he really wanted to be some kind of edgy punk rock type but he had this weird midas touch thing where everything he wrote turned into extremely catchy pop songs no matter what he did.
One of the best pop artists of all time, far better than all his contemporaries.
i like his music
Another victim of the SIMP war. Kill all white women
Thats a trans.
Overrated. Chris and Layne are 10x better than Kurt.
>Him
Heroin junkie manchild, I cannot believe I ever thought he was cool
>His music
Still like it. In Utero is overrated and Bleach is underrated though.
Kind of ironic when you put it that way. Punk rock was a way for kids in the '70s to bring back catchy rock songs written in a very pop-like format. If that's what Kurt was trying to be then he should have went full Jabbers-era GG in how he presented himself. I don't know if his heroin addiction would have allowed him the energy needed to pull off that kind of juvenile spit-in-your-eye type of 'fuck you' attitude though.
>Heroin junkie manchild, I cannot believe I ever thought he was cool
He had severe deppression and heroin don't fix that. He should have gone to therapy.
t. psychologist
If he looked like Tom Doyle from Tad, nobody would remember Nirvana today.
1/3
That's cool that you're like a psychologist and all but it's pretty clear as day that his depression and ultimately his suicide were because of drugs.
I asked my girlfriend for her opinion on him, and she responded with "Isn't that Miley Cyrus' dad?"
Steve Cornell was better
Let's dispel with this fiction that Kurt Cobain didn't know what he was doing. He knew exactly what he was doing

Why do people still listen to this? When will you grow up?
>I hate myself and wanna die
Go ahead, those people in third world countries will pity you.
