do you think animal collective has it in them, to make another truly great album? or are they just going to continue to peter out? i wish they could recapture the special quality of their music they once had
Do you think animal collective has it in them, to make another truly great album...
this album is imo tied with Campfire Songs for their best release
I have no clue. They’ve been so bad the past decade it makes me question whether they were ever good
the special quality of being shit
Their new EP is a step towards the right direction IMO I just want them to go back to their noise and freak-folk roots.
You faggots keep saying this with every release
Just give them up already
Unfortunately I think they've already milked themselves for all that they had and now there's none left in the tank.
I'd say peter out. I saw them live a few years ago and it was just incredibly frustrating. Maybe it's because I'm 30 and 20, but the "5 minutes of random bloops" before any song, which stretched it into a 2 hour show, killed me. Left early. Probably just needed better drugs. YMMV.
if they let deakin have more creative input there'd def be hope
plus even if buoys wasn't amazing, it seems panda is a lot more inspired now and avey's last few releases were much better than down there and that side band of his
Yeah just like Ariel, Maus and Mac DeMarco, they ran out of experimental late 70s/early 80s music to copy
for me animal collective used to represent a sort of childish spontaneity, trying to capture some deeply buried part of yourself. like donning masks and running in the woods and banging on instruments and trying to capture something. modern Anco doesnt really give me that feeling
They already did, like, last week
animal collective has a single solitary good album and it's called centipede hz
they will never capture that magic again
How many of you have heard the new set and Defeat?
AnCo are my all time favorite band but even I can admit that I think they’re done trying to compete with the modern indie scene. I mean, P4K, Fantano, and many other indie critics gave up on AnCo after Centipede Hz. Ever since 2017, AnCo have just made pleasant records that are purely to keep their hardcore fanbase happy, both as a collective and in their solo works. It seems like they are going back to their early folk roots. Honestly I have a feeling they’re going to retire soon.
you mean the music box village set from two years ago?
no, the songs from the 2019 sets.
Music Box is great as well
This is their best album
Spirit is their best album and its not even close
hehe he said Peter!
ah yes spirit, the album with filler and alvin row
the 2019 sets are amazing and stuff like cherokee feels like "old anco" in terms of aveys lyrics.
*unfortunately* they decided to be deeply ashamed of their art so i doubt they'll make a song called "cherokee" after erasing "here comes the indian" out of existence like THANOS (OMG)
(check out their instagram comments to see deakin bullied into submission by "fans")
How? April and the Phantom, La Rapet, Penny Dreadfuls, and Bat You'll Fly are all top tier Anco songs and the rest are all good too.
I don't care about shit like that. Fuck the world
Meeting of the waters was excellent.
im just praying the 2019 material survives corona, they said they didnt think they could record it remotely. also god knows why the music box set still hasn't been released apparently it was professionally recorded audio and video. i need to get HIGH ON THE MAGNOLIA.
>April and the Phantom, La Rapet, Penny Dreadfuls, and Bat You'll Fly are all top tier Anco songs
they're not
They are
no
Panda has been consistently melting faces every tour of his from the last decade. honestly say whatever about the albums (i blame bad production/mastering for most badness) the live shows have never stopped being sick.
Probably not, but I'll still keep hoping
