Because most people aren't on as many hallucinogenic drugs as you are.

Ok that's a nice meme reply and all but why is it hated?

In one word: "Gurgi"

This was made during Disney's experimental low-budget era when they were stretched thin. I think the black cauldron didn't really have a strong story. A weird magical pig, a super dark villain with a super dark death (for disney kids, anyway), a limp dick annoying hero, a princess that nobody cares about or remembers. Gurgi was the jar-jar binks of his time - nobody liked him or his voice.

There were just too many negatives to over come the positives. I think Disney was limping hard after this movie. The little mermaid would come along and save their collective asses, but there were a lot of things that they tried to make that didn't turn out super well. For example: As much as I love the rescuers down under, it was considered a failure. Weird, right?

I pretend to hate it so it remains niche and I can keep Eilonwy for myself.

It failed so it had to be bad and the source content is way darker and the film was to be darker too at first

You can say it has its charm (and it does for me), but if you think this movie is good on a technical level (narrative pacing, plot, etc) I think it's safe to say you're wrong...

Characters weren't very interesting, setting made no sense, stakes never felt as high as they claimed, and I don't know what the fuck that talking animal thing was supposed to be.

>sequel made 13 years after the original
>the original wasn't even particularly popular or anything

What upset me the most about it was the villain had everything all under control, and then the very next scene he was being sucked into the black cauldron

I love the movie but I felt the same way with the story being all over the place. Grugi as a chariter isnt that terrible and I find that if he wasent voiced by the person who did Donald duck in a god damned Donald duck voice, he would be a whole lot more tolerable. Not only that but I never got the chance to read the book it was baced on so who the fuck knows what it was originally like and if it would of made alot more fucking scene in context. Only pluss side is 'they'll never make a live-action remake of it'.

Is it that widely hated? I always thought that people appreciated it as diamond in the rough.

>Only pluss side is 'they'll never make a live-action remake of it*.

*yet

Actually I think it was confirmed awhile ago with Disney having bought the book rights.

The original Rescuers fell into that experimental tight budget era too. I like to think that most of these shit movies were probably drug-fueled. Lots of white powder mixed in with the paints, so to speak.

I thought the movie was cool as a kid but I despised Gurgi. Every time I felt like rewatching it I remembered he existed and lost any interest, cool zombie army or not.

source, right the fuck now. there is no way in hell they would of kept the rights of that book after there movie based on it was so utterly failed and basically turned into a niece cult following that barely makes a blip on any radars other than here thadle give them the reason to re-make it. If they did, they probably wont dare make it until after the covid scare blew over so they have theam-park bux to keep them afloat after it fails or not.

Actually, The Black Cauldron, Treasure Planet, and Atlantis are the only Disney movies that I would be ok with getting live-action remakes since they were all so underappreciated in their initial debut.

>It failed so it had to be bad and the source content is way darker and the film was to be darker too at first
Same thing happened to this movie.

Kek Gurgi

Gurgi wasn't a creation of Disney, he was in the book too.

>they would of
>after there movie

Go back to school.

This but I'd also add that there was a degree of incompetence there, because the book it was based on had a very good story that should've been easier to adapt. They dropped the ball.

>Tonight I'm talkin cool about the daunting production struggles of Disney's misunderstood masterpiece, The Black Cauldron, and why - to me - it's a bona fide Halloween hit. If there's anything I love more than Disney films it's Disney films that even less of my friends have heard of. Luv 2 the folx @ Disney who worked on this film and even more to those who contributed to the outro. Happy belated Halloween.

It's a little bit pretentious and shills Disney too much, but otherwise, I think he's right on the mark in his analysis of the film.

They got the rights again back in 2016 to add to their long list of things to remake. Honestly, a series would be perfect for Disney+ at some point.

I agree. We're talking about the same era which spawned the Star Wars holiday special. I can totally see drugs having an influence in those films

>e-celebs

Not even once.

Imagine Seahorsie Ronan in a live action more faithful adaptation.

It alright.

If they had kept the rumored partial nudity,
people would remember Eilonwy pretty well I think
