Is this any good?

I like Adventure Time, and I like the idea of Gravity Falls and Steven Universe (even though I watch neither).

You mean you missed the 342 She Ra threads that were already on Zig Forums?

I don't usually post on Zig Forums and when I do I don't go to She-Ra threads, since I've never seen an ep.

The art looks decent but if it's too geared to grills with ship shit I'll pass.

>but if it's too geared to grills with ship shit I'll pass.
It’s this
Also the ship is abusive

Well I should have expected such, it is current year afterall.

No.

Quality cartoons are kind of dead, you’re better off looking for anime.

If you like The Last Airbender you'll like it.

she ra s god awful shit

Gravity Falls was the only good show you mentioned

dont hate on me, yo sho was bad

It's a decent show. It doesn't have great action, but it's very character driven so if you're into that, you may like it.

Its good.

Objectively speaking it's a very good cartoon. There's a big circle jerk for and against it, and it's neither as good nor as bad as either circle will lead you to believe.

It's very good, not amazing, not awful.

At its core is a pretty nuanced character, that is genuinely very well written until the last half of the last season, where it turns into abuse glorification.

Still worth watching though, cartoons don't necessarily have to portray an ideal world.

It's good.
Its a well written show that balances serious subjects like emotional manipulation and child soldiers, with action and fun. Zig Forums loved it for most of its run until the lesbian bit at the end. Now it's "ruined because teh sjws".

Fair enough...

Unironically the best-written Western "non-comedy actionish" series I've seen since Avatar. Frankly after the likes of TMNT 2012, Transformers Prime, Voltron Legendary Defender, Korra, Symbionic Titan, and Steven Universe Future, I was starting to worry that we'd seen the end of series getting a satisfying ending.

I liked it, but the final season feels like alot ending up on the cutting room floor due to how rushed it felt at times.

I thought it was pretty entertaining overall though and there was even an episode that did shoutouts to the original series.

>I like Adventure Time,
Then you'll like this!

Lots of focus on relationships, not a lot of action really and most of it is pretty badly animated. The world isn't very fleshed out and pretty hollow, but its a good set dressing. The war is just a backdrop for teenage adventures. The only part you might have a problem with is the ending when they have a murderer character randomly get in a lesbian relationship. Wait, actually, you might be okay with that depending on how you liked Bubblegum.

>Zig Forums loved it for most of its run
I thought they all hated it because they were sure it was all SJW bait?

You can't even keep the silly ass narrative straight after a month, really?

I didn't mind Catra being redeemed, but I think the other princesses should've taken more time to warm up to her and trust her. But I guess having to complete to whole process in only a single season with a ton of other stuff going on was going to cause it not to get the screentime it needed.

GLTAS blows it out of the water with a satisfying ending, its not even remotely close to a contest. Over the Garden Wall also beats it out pretty handily. Thinking on it, what was the problem with Rise of the Predicons ending? It had a pretty clear buildup and payoff and Peter Cullen absolutely nailed that final speech.

We can both agree Voltron was still bottom of the barrel though.

the show does focus on relationships heavily, but not at a detriment to the story.
The characters are still engaging outside of their dating status, and the world is cool.
Also the villains in the series are fantastic. Every single one a delight to watch

Gonna second Green Lantern The Animated Series, absolutely an underrated show that does everything She-Ra, or more importantly I guess Korra since they had surprisingly similar storylines for her first season, wanted to do but better. Having not just A victim of abuse and a good person lead down a path of rage and hatred, but humanizing the opposing force in a war by showing they too were victims and needed to be reconciled and not just defeated was a shockingly mature choice. As was Hal and Carol's breakup being more grounded in both of them having justified reasons but still deeply caring about one another, and it absolutely knocked everything it set out to do out of the park. That it didn't get a continuation like Young Justice did is a shame, but the conclusion it had was perfect.

Most of the story is the love interest trying to kill the person she eventually ends up with at the end of the show.

GLTAS is my go to whenever anyone says Catra "Didn't have time to do a full redemption since the last season was just 13 episodes". Everyone justifiably hated him at the start of the series for shockingly similar reasons to Catra, though he was less involved with the act that lead to the death of a character, and he even went through her whole depression stage too.

But we got to see every character eventually, slowly, learn to understand him and the goodhearted protagonists eventually helped him, even if at the time of meeting Hal was literally ready to kill him and Kilowog wanted to do the same. Even Aya thought he was too dangerous to be kept around. That they could take that and eventually build up understanding and trust with the core cast to where they eventually accepted him, a whole relationship from scratch that started on "Kill the fucker", while also having a backdrop of a space adventure and an all out war? It was just perfectly done. You can do an entire "From (Accessory to)murderer to character redemption AND give them a relationship with a main character" arc in 13 seasons and do it well.

Just takes some actual talent is all.

>GLTAS blows it out of the water with a satisfying ending, its not even remotely close to a contest.

Afraid I just can't agree. GLTAS had too many loose ends at the end - which, I mean... obviously it did, since they were hoping for more seasons. I would also say that while there were a few characters I loved in GL, I never warmed to Hal, and overall there were more characters I felt invested in with She-Ra. But I will agree that GLTAS is one of our high points in recent years, and managed to have a very good "ending" even if they were hoping it wouldn't be The End. I still have it on my "definitely recommend" list alongside Avatar, Mystery Incorporated, and She-Ra.

I felt deeply unsatisfied by Prime in the final analysis, simply because it felt poorly planned out - not surprising since they (1) were writing it a season at a time with no idea how many eps they had left, and (2) were having to incorporate the latest toy stuff willy nilly. The first season filled me with all kinds of hope, but it never felt like it came together or had a clear direction. I'd just list it as a decent show but not a major accomplishment.

I would consider Over the Garden Wall in a different category from the likes of She-Ra, Avatar, Voltron, Symbionic Titan, Thundercats, etc. It was a fun sorta-ghost-story, not really an action show. But most definitely one of the high points of animation in the last couple decades.

>GLTAS had too many loose ends at the end
I disagree with that. Aya didn't need to be revived, and her character really didn't need to be present to fit the theme that Razer's done wallowing and he's going off to find a better life. Hal finally got his life back the way he wanted it, Kilowog got over his hatred and rage and learned to accept his new family, everyone was in a good place. The only "Hanging thread" was Scar, who while thematically interesting really didn't mean anything to Hal or Kilowog or Aya.

> Mystery Incorporated,
Now that's how you do an ending.

>I'd just list it as a decent show but not a major accomplishment.
I'd disagree only because I can't find any other animated show in the west that even comes close to matching the action. If you can find me a show that can match this youtube.com/watch?v=K04dug4LByY I want to see it now.

>youtube.com/watch?v=K04dug4LByY

>That fucking smooth choreography
>That impact with every hit
>That rage
>That subtle character building when they finally start to work together
>That unique weapon usage
>That usage of the environment
>Not holding back by actually destroying Magnus's hand

This blows that new netflix show right the fuck out of the water. How did something with such a budget difference manage to fail so hard compared to this?

Dat fucking action man, fucking beautiful.

Well they introduced the other rings but never really played with them. Sinestro had an ep then was vapor. I definitely felt somewhat dissatisfied because it was so obviously a series cut much shorter than the writers wanted it to be, even though they took pains to set things up so if the first season was all we got it wouldn't be too bad.

>the action
I did specify that I was talking about She-Ra being top-tier in terms of writing, not animation. It's... fine at animation in general, and lackluster at action. Prime had excellent action, my problem was the writing. Many of the characters felt on the one-dimensional side (frankly I still think they squandered the idea of Optimus and Megatron once being friends by just doubling down on Megatron being pure evil), and the plot kinda meandered and wibble-wobbled to the finish line. In terms of writing I'd say it was a competent show that stuck the landing, but not something I'd hold up for other shows to try and emulate.

I honestly thought that they were going to go the redemption route after season 3. I was actually kind of pleasantly surprised that in season 4 they didn't have her regret or feel bad for the death she caused, she actively doubled down on trying to kill them all. It was a refreshing and honestly daring idea to have an abusive person called out, knocked down, and not have them instantly change, and gave every indication they had no inclination to change. And, best of all, it meant if they wanted her to change, she was going to have to address the horrible shit she did.

But then the shitshow of season 5 dropped and I said out loud, oh, this bitch is just retarded, look at me expecting too much from the slow kid.

>Well they introduced the other rings but never really played with them
The pink lanterns and blue lanterns and obviously the red lanterns all were major parts of the story. They didn't just introduce them, they examined what they meant to the universe and in the case of Blue had the best writing payoff I've seen since season 2 of ATLA. Absolutely majestic.

> Sinestro had an ep then was vapor.
Here's my issue with this complaint, its only a flaw if you expect Sinestro to be a yellow lantern. In the context of the story, it fit to have a more mature and capable Green Lantern that Hal looked up to and did some questionable things in the course of the episode, and eventually have him overcome his idolization to be a better lantern. Sinestro on his own was a great character who stole the show in that epiosde, if the only downside is he didn't go full evil, that's not really a detriment to the writing as a whole or even a loose thread, he served his purpose and wasn't crammed back in for fanservice.

> I definitely felt somewhat dissatisfied because it was so obviously a series cut much shorter than the writers wanted it to be,
The words "The characters had full arcs that ended but I wanted more of this world and to see where the little nods went" is a sign of good writing, even great writing. Rushing a character to a happy conclusion would've been terrible writing, because everything's tied up but its done badly.

> Many of the characters felt on the one-dimensional side
All I can say is agree to disagree, Arcee was the best she's ever been, Ratchet was the funniest character, and Prime being more like the movieverse with "Kill'em all" when he fights was... okay not my favorite, I like him better when he's more light but still throws down, but he's distinct. And even Bulkhead was unique. Only one I felt was let down was Bumblebee, this was a show where even Knockout and Starscream could shine.
