Question is, is this cry for Splinter or Barry? I know the two rituals are the lair being destroyed and Splinter biting it, but with the work done into Barry he'd make an equally appealing martyr.

I've been hearing enough people jerk this show off to get me curious. I saw the first couple of episodes when it came out and wasn't impressed, but I've heard it's improved greatly since then, including in some of the plot

I've seen every ep. It doesn't improve, especially not in plot. It gets even more sloppily written, more and more using "but it's comedy!" to excuse shitty worldbuilding and incredibly rushed character shifts.

That's pretty much it man. Starts off kind of slow, pisses people off because this isn't the turtles they know and they're much weaker, but then it turns out that the point was that the show is showing you how they're growing from losers to fucking badass at this point. Also wholesome if you were kind of turned off by how shitty April was and how cuntish the brothers were to each other in 12, its genuine brotherly care while still giving each other shit.
