Why is Optimus only written as a bland stoic figure now? In the G1 cartoon he was down to Earth and could still talk like one of the bots, but now he only speaks in stale platitudes like one of those "Marcus Aurelius for Busy Business People" books.
Why is Optimus only written as a bland stoic figure now...
the voice acting sucks so that everyone can be more robotic and old school. Fucking boomers. I was hoping for based prime ratchet. Also I thought moonracer died lol what the fuck happened.
>the voice acting sucks so that everyone can be more robotic and old school.
It also sucks because the cast just kind of sucks and the voice direction just sucked. The Sunbow cast wasn't nearly as dull, and you can't get more old school Transformers than that. I don't think you can really blame "boomers" on this one. It's just a shitty show, as anyone that saw the trailer or saw Jake Foushee was part of the cast should have predicted.
Moonracer did die, they just used Chromia's head on her instead of Moonracer's.
>I was hoping for based prime ratchet.
Prime has spoiled me. Jeffery Combs as Ratchet was just TOO good, nothing before or after quite lives up to his performance.
Because the people that praise Optimus for being a stoic leader that espouses generic speeches aren't thinking about G1 cartoon Optimus. They're actually thinking about 1986 movie Optimus.
Wholeheartedly agree. TFA's Ratchet is a pretty close second, though.
If I may go on a tangent, if I were to introduce Spinister as a new character, I would have him first appear as the fearsome, brooding, loner type that hangs around in the background, looking intimidating.
Silent and deadly.
But his internal monologue would reveal that he's bit of an idiot.
>"You see that guy over there?"
>"Spinister? What about him?"
>"Doesn't he look stoic and badass?"
>"He looks kinda scary to me. And that face! He must be concentrating on something really hard."
>"Makes you wonder what he's thinking about right now."
>Close-up on Spinister's face.
>Spinister (thoughts):"How come no one ever says wizard, anymore?"
You picked a pretty bad Prime to use as an example given that netflix Prime was an emotional idiot.
To be fair I think that Optimus made the 1986 film a better movie.
Siege Prime deviates from that stoic characterization, though.
i want to believe that ''SIEGE'' Prime was suppose to sound stupid because he still a newbe in the entire be a Prime thing , he still naive and dont know the real meaning of sacrifice and sending people to die.
I’m pretty sure Prime started the trend of Optimus having no personality besides being a leader, fuck even the Bayverse gave him somewhat of a personality, that being really wanting to kill everyone
Trouble is, his performance doesn't carry it.
I would rather see TF ANIMATED PRIME in this role.
I think that must have been the driest Transformers media I've ever seen. It wasn't a regular sort of bad, like a Bay movie mess. It was cardboard.
What personality would you want Optimus to have? At least in Animated he was a naive, inexperiences leader while in Bayverse he was a grim "I don't give a fuck" soldier.
Would you rather have "Transformers Roll Out!"?
>but calarts!
Cause that's the only alternative to a badly written "serious" show.
I'd rather have an interesting story with at least decent characterisation and dialog writing. Also while I'm wishing, good voice acting. The animation was probably the one praiseworthy part.
Prime is always stoic now, he'll never be down to shoot some b-ball with the bots again.
I agree. G1 cartoon Prime was anything but melancholy and bland. He cracked jokes at his enemies, threw shade, and shot hoops. G1 Prime is full of personality and I hate how stiff and generic the new ones are, where they just take the whole "humble big good" and run with it.
We need more cool stepdad energy, not Abraham Lincoln with clinical depression.
Like this?
Optimus isn’t all that stoic in Siege, though. He’s presented as being troubled by his decisions and filled with self doubt, but he powers on because he knows that what he’s doing is right despite sacrificing so much. He’s the most emotional in this than he’s ever been since the G1 series. I like him here, but he’s obviously presented as flawed and a bit weary. Tired, sad and filled with regret. It’s kind of somber.
Unironically yes, because you could atleast make fun of that.
This show is so fucking badly written AND boring that it's not even funny to talk about.
Bay was the last person to write optimus as having more going on then generic big good leader guy
Shit from tm07 to Age of extinction he had multiple arcs
Except the war had been going for how long at that point? 3 million years?
>I think that must have been the driest Transformers media I've ever seen.
This. No one had any fucking personality except maybe Starscream. And the voice acting was complete trash. They added some digitization to the voices and called it a day.
The writing for this show was complete shit. Nothing is explained or makes sense. Throwing magnus in prison and then being not only surprised but outraged, that he would use his communicator was so dumb. Especially when they acknowledge everyone has a fucking com built in, its not like it was a secret.
It would take too much time to go into the mess that was the all spark, thinking the cons could find a thing that has been gone so long they dont even know if it exists (risking everything, including their lives the war over it) and then Bee knowing where it was (meaning Magnus knew where it was the whole time). And the virus was soo stupid. It was an autobot virus that didnt actually affect autobots, minus Bee. And it just magically transmits everywhere?
Sigh... I wanted this to be good.
Totally agreed, but I will say wartime Optimus being stoic makes sense, though I wish we got classic charismatic Optimus.
I watched the first episode of this show and it's so fucking bad. Bumblebee is the hothead loner badass? I guess Cliff Jumper doesn't exist in this?
90% of the episode is characters talking without saying anything, there's barely any action other than a few shots, and the final moment of the episode is Ultra Magnus coming into a Decepticon rally wearing A FUCKING CLOTH CLOAK like a D&D character.
Sure, it's not like he can TRANSFORM INTO SOMETHING ELSE if he wants to conceal his identity or anything...
I wouldn't mind a young and inexperienced Optimus, or a traumatized Optimus (one where he sometimes suffers from PTSD).
Whoever wrote this clearly had seen the bay movies and watched some of G1, took a few notes, and went with it. Its clear they dont know much/anything about the original personalities of the characters and doesnt even attempt to bring those to light (save for Starscream). Everyone else is pretty much lifeless. Keep watching, it gets waaay dumber.
>Also I thought moonracer died lol what the fuck happened.
Sounsd like you had the same problem I had. There was Chromia too, they just looked the same to me. I actually thought it was just Chromia since you never saw both at the same time and only realized Moonracer even exists in that series when she died and someone shouted her name. Yes the series is shit.
I laughed my ass off when they pulled the cloak hiding Magnus's face and Megatron and the cons were shocked it was him as if the MASSIVE FUCKING SHOULDERS weren't a dead giveaway.
>only realized Moonracer even exists in that series when she died and someone shouted her name
This right here. I thought Chromia was dead until they shouted Moonracer and then I was like "I guess that was a Chromia alt..."
Not only that, then they throw him in prison for basically no reason. Like, Megs might have actually been able to convince him to do what he wanted, but nope, better just mindlessly throw him in prison. Then, the Cons are dumbfounded, and fucking pissed, that Magnus used his fucking communicator, which they acknowledge later that EVERYONE has one built in. So lazy shit writing.
