What flaws did Steven Universe have as a show other than "These characters are not the exact same height all the time!"?

enabling fags and trannies

OTP

its boring

Very little Spinel in Future, and in the very little time she got she was written as a 1-note gag character.

Redeeming literal genocidal colonizer nazis

Spinel is overrated and i thoroughly enjoyed her wackiness in her Future appearance. Goofy Spinel >>>>>>>>>>>>>> angsty fanon waifu Spinel

townies bullshit on top of the shit scheduling which made plot development rare and sporadic.

Spinel was a major three dimensional character in the movie that had a lot of potential to get involved in the main plot earlier on. Instead they dicked around with townie filler half the time and gutted the character for the sake of gags. Simple as that. I don't care about fanon at all, but even fanon Spinel can occasionally be superior if the writer is more talented than SUF's, which really isn't a high bar.

Rose being Pink. You're allowed to like this, you can say it makes sense and had proper build-up but the story to me was just better before
>... How come nobody told me about Pink Diamond?
>We all did what we had to during the war. Everything's different now.
>But did Mom really do it? Did she really... shatter her?
>She had to. The Earth belonged to Pink Diamond. Destroying her was the only way to save the planet. For Amethyst to be herself, for Pearl to be free, for me to be together. For you to exist.
>But I thought... A-At least she'd never...
>She didn't always do what was best for her. But she always did what was best for Earth.
>Even if it meant shattering someone...
>Yes.
This was the closing lines of the S3 finale, it felt like it had meaning and was an important mature moment/lesson for Steven. But then it got completely upheavaled and feels awkward to look back at. The shattered gems being revived further ruins the gravitas of the war and the real-life parallels it had. They spell out to us that they want Rose to be a "morally grey" character and maybe it would have worked with a deft hand, but it came out clumsy. We had one episode delving into her mindset that felt like it was on fast forward and because of the easy narrative crutch Rose had as the "she did something horrible and Steven has to fix it!" now a big portion of the audience sees her as worse than even the other Diamonds.

I actually think White's "redemption" could have worked but her throwing a tantrum and blushing was a bad way of doing it, ruining her.
>I am a kid, what's your excuse?
The realization that Pink was indeed 100% gone should've had way more narrative importance for her than "OMG I'm blushy don't look at me UwU." Also just more clarification on what she knew, very confusing trying to figure out if she knew about Rose/Pink, and perhaps more screentime before the last 5 episodes would have helped a lot.

etc

Worst worldbuilding I have ever seen in a continuity driven show

Attached: 1587535012405.png (650x650, 544.97K)

Bad pacing, story that meanders around a lot, removing all the weight of gem death by revealing that the diamonds can just piece them back together so it doesn't even matter.

Came here to post what this user said.

S4 and the townie episodes essentially being null at the end of the series
>barley even show up in future

>unlikable gary stu protag
>underdeveloped characters who constantly get away with being assholes
>no stakes
>no worldbuilding past season one
>terrible pacing
>boring filler
>botched messages
tldr shitty writing

too much filler. It got ridiculous.
And, in my opinion, Steven never learned that there are people you can't/won't be able to save (unless you have magical reviving saliva/tears) or don't deserve/don't want to be saved. It would have been intriguing to see how Steven would react to some irredeemable force who doesn't give a shit about feels.

The only people who believe in unredeemable people are quitters

Lapis not riding Steven's dick
Biggest flaw ever

The story is written poorly with long gaps in between seasons and the characters for different reasons are terrible.

The fans are obnoxious retards

>The Gem war loses all weight when it's revealed they only won because of the help of a diamond making the struggles of Amethyst, Garnet, and Pearl seem utterly pointless.
>Steven's entire shtick about changing the minds of his antagonists through understanding is thrown out the window as the diamonds only side with Steven out of Neopotism due to the circumstances of his birth.
>The reveal that Rose is Pink Diamond actively harms the motivations of the Gems as it turns what is a legitimate fight for freedom into nothing more than a young girl running away from her responsibilities.
>Steven's issues in future come off more like a self centered asshole with a Messiah complex because he no longer is the center of everyone's world.
>The pacing of the show in general is terrible with multiple story lines being resolved way to fast an in unrealistic or unsatisfactory ways.
>The animation is subpar even if you rule out the model blunders
>Interesting characters are fladerdized to disgusting degrees, losing all of their original charm
>Fusion as a concept is littered with inconsistencies to the point that it becomes morally questionable
>the porn is legitimately better than the series in every way.

Attached: 1490639522923.gif (960x540, 285.71K)

>>Fusion as a concept is littered with inconsistencies to the point that it becomes morally questionable

>Fusion is possible through synchronizing with each other and dancing
>first fusions look nice and represent each others characteristics and personality
>Fan theory is that Fusing is basically sex after this point

>Episode where Pearl tricks Garnet into fusing with her happens and it's basically treated like tricking someone into having sex with you under false-pretenses
>Garnet is actually 2 gems that are madly in love with each other so they're actively having sex all the time
>Jasper and Lapis fuse but it's a forceful relationship where the two are constantly fighting for domination and freedom
>Lapis admits she liked hurting Jasper and Jasper is so fucked from the abuse that she wants more and forced herself on gems that couldn't consent
>Amethyst has hang ups over her self-esteem and basically has sex to help feel better about herself

>Off colors has a nervous wreck fusion and a weird caterpillar fusion that's "always looking for more" which also talks slow and moves slow and in general makes people uncomfortable
>Fusion designs in general got worse over time and the fusions Steven quickly has with Garnet and Pearl are fine but not great

Also Steven fused with his Dad but Fusion totally isn't sex though! Gem's don't have true genders and all that but Peridot is the defacto Asexual of the group, Pearl was a jealous lesbian, and Lapis is a sadist

Multiple
>characters not named Steven, Diamond or Pearl started becoming irrelevant to the plot and where pushed to the background
>Characters who where important went through dumb story arcs
>every character is forgiven way too easily despite doing horrendous things
>the one major character who isn’t forgiven is one of the least villainous antagonists due to her history and is the one who suffered the most
>Homeworld and gems started interesting but slowly became more bland and generic. What started as a cool alien robot race turned into one dimensional cute goofballs
>Characters almost never taking action against their enemies, instead waiting for the bad guys to do their move first while they wait in their shitty boring town doing nothing
>Heroes are pathetic and only save the day thanks to luck and deus ex machinas
>character development is rendered meaningless since they revert to previous behaviors in later episodes. The last story having the main character forget all the lessons and growth he had through the series and turning into a manchild who can’t handle change
It was a bad show

The shattered Gems being able to be revived doesn't even make fucking sense. The Diamonds had this ability this whole time yet never once considered using it on Pink's remains? The writers utterly destroyed the entire plot just so that nobody can actually face the consequences of their actions.

>Spinel was a major three dimensional character
Not really, she was just a psychopath who was sad and angry until she was calmed down. She doesn’t really have much to go on once she regrets what she’s done. Her entire character revolves around Pink, there’s literally nothing else that ties her to the world. She didn’t participate in the war, she wasn’t part of homeworld for a long time, she wasn’t a rebel, never questioned her identity, etc. That’s why she was doomed in Future, they put a character made for one movie in an over arching story and she didn’t fit in because of it.

Being a slice of life show trying to get me to care about how a literal god has emotional problems.
Poor worldbuilding that undermines the melodrama.
The fact that sucrose decided to abandon her monster of the week anime ripoff just so she can shove in more gay bullshit.

>Not really, she was just a psychopath who was sad and angry until she was calmed down.
>if I'm as reductive and dismissive as possible, maybe it will look like my non-argument is correct

why did almost no one, not even the government, cared that aliens were invading earth and walking around with humans in broad daylight?

Gems are artificially created alien beings but who created the gems? They couldn't have just manifested out of nothing, a TV doesn't just suddenly appear, someone had to make it.

Attached: 1566089890257.jpg (171x168, 19.08K)

the only way to make sense of it is Diamonds just magically spawn under the right circumstances, at this point there is absolutely zero indication they had creators

Why did the gems need to create an army? They had an army long before coming to Earth. Was there another sentient race that was capable of being a threat to the gems? Who were they?

Attached: 1583131870799.jpg (540x472, 53.73K)

>the fact that this is from tumblr probably implies this is SU critical

that file name alone makes me not want to consider this valid criticism out of spite. I fucking hate the su critical community more than the actual community

like I said before a TV doesn't just suddenly appear under the right conditions, they're a programmed and artificial creation. Nature had nothing to do with it.

My own headcanon for this is that Beach City is just kind of a keep away zone since a lot of major gem activity that wasn't corrupted gems was contained there by Rose Quartz. The government pretty much doesn't get involved unless it's outside of that zone and reaches terrorist levels of danger

There's a tweet from Ian stating that the Gem Empire never killed anyone but it was already established that the Empire has an army and gems harvested for war purposes like Jaspers and Amethysts and and gems that create weapons like Bismuth's so it begs the question of what the fuck were they doing with these gems and weapons if they never killed anyone

Attached: 1565313382999.png (618x618, 647.44K)

What was in Rose's chest?

Attached: 1580615021861.png (441x603, 1.02M)

they're not really robots though, they're aliens. it's not like Diamonds make other gems in a lab they pop out of the ground after sucking up enough life. in one episode they imply Pink Diamond came from a fallen comet. if it's weird circumstances like that that would explain why they didn't just make another Pink Diamond.

The writing and characterinteractions aren't particularly great. They do the job, but that's about it

White said Pink, Yellow and Blue came from herself, which makes sense as white light is all of the colors of the rainbow’s light combined

Only Real Flaws:
Diamonds got redeemed to easily (ok thats the theme of the show i get it
But the Final was so fucking rushes in my opinion.
and I like Townie episodes by the way. Steven Universe future could have went even darker, whouldve been appropriate

Why did Sugar establish two new villains at the end of Steven Universe future but not resolve them?

Attached: 1578990662907.jpg (1280x720, 66.58K)

I'm pretty sure he said they never killed intelligent life, or that there is no reason to think they have. Obviously they have killed a TON of organic life and in Jungle Moon some species can be dangerous. I think they mostly just expand their empire and its strength just for the sake of expansion nothing more complex. Most of their weaponry is designed to be effective against other gems which is why Steven could just walk out of his prison in the S1 finale

it's from MY tumblr and i have no what you're talking about. stop being contrarian

Later seasons largely sidelined the Crystal Gems, despite being the characters who drew most people to the show to begin with.
