They (WGBH) made a deal for the animated adaptation...then shorted the creator on payment, saying it wasn't profitable with dodgy accounting, then later started to make distribution deals other networks, most prominently a cartoon network called DHX, without telling her. Distribution WASN'T in the agreement. In addition, the show was used to solicit viewer donations, and took in over 20 million (adding weight to the "questionable accounting practices" allegation. How the hell did it rake in so much if it was actually a dud?), and she got none of it. She only made about $30,000 on the whole deal.
