Majority of charitable contributions go to institutions, etc. which is just elites buying prestige for themselves by having their name put on a building. As well as getting nice tax write offs. Not that much goes to actual fund stuff like food services, homeless shelters, etc. And it's a straight out myth that before modern social safety nets charity of individuals was able to help all of those in need.

The issue isn't welfare programs, it's that people are overwhelmingly being paid such shit wages that you can't live on it, let alone support a family. This is why you can work at Walmart, which makes giant profits, and still be dependent on food stamps, Medicaid, etc. because you can't live on such low wages and switching jobs isn't possible because places like walmart have killed all the nearby mom and pop style small business competition.

Except they very often insist something isn't broken, even when it obviously is, because if the problem doesn't affect them or their family directly, it's not their problem so fuck it. It's only after they are personally feeling the impact that they might change their tune. Just look at things like gay rights.
