My heart goes out to Ravagers in Endgame, but I liked those three. Gave me a LoTR vibe.
ITT: characters that got done dirty in the MCU
>degraded to non-canon
A fate worse than death
Hank pym and Janet .
Mandarin .
VIsion
Star-Lord
Ultron
Ironboy .
>Ironboy
He's gotten 2 solo movies and major roles in Civil War, Infinity War and Endgame
Ultron got cucked big time, man is an A-lister but got treated as a side villain.
The Guardians of the Galaxy
You can list all the phase 1 and 2 villains. Barely any of them were that good and they were all one dimensional I AM EVIL villains. Rourke and Eccleston were especially pissed about how their characters were treated.
The Mandarin. complete and total waste of both Ben Kingsley’s talents and Iron Man’s greatest nemesis
I understand obviously that they couldn’t do a straight up yellow peril Fu Manchu stereotype in the 21st-century. But they could’ve updated him in ways that were more in keeping with modern sensibilities.
The Iron Man armor adventures cartoon series managed to make the mandarin genuinely cool. I would’ve love to see him in the face off with Robert Downey Jr.’s iron man.
How'd the MCU treat Skurge, I only saw a reference to his tragic last stand being used as a joke when he's talking to the protagonist about his guns.
I can't think of a single character that was treated right.
The sad thing is that they did update him into a Bin Laden-esque terrorist. Everything was perfectly set and they just pulled a GOTCHA on everyone to reveal the true villain mastermind. Killian.
You could have just made a Thor thread
>Hank pym and Janet .
They were turned into minor characters but they're arguably better off.
What if he returns in the future and goes "haha, it was a ruse, I was using them all and only pretended to be retarded to not get shot!".
>Hank pym and Janet .
I do not think Disney would want to adapt a character who is a notorious wife beater and an abusive relationship in the same franchise where they have a goofy talking raccoon and a purple scrotum chin space demon who wants to wipe out half existence.
That really is the biggest issue with the Marvel cinematic universe, with the exception of the Netflix shows and the first two iron man movies? they just iron out (Pun only partially intended) almost all the darker/deeper character flaws of the heroes from the comics to make them more marketable. Tony Starks alcoholism isn’t even acknowledged after Iron Man two. Captain America doesn’t have any angst about All his friends and family being old or dead. They outright replaced uncle Ben with Tony Stark in Spiderman’s case.
Which is ironic considering The whole reason marvel characters became as popular as they were was because they were supposed to be the more grounded/human characters in comparison to DC’s pantheon of literal demigods.
Lel at how the original Avengers and Agents of SHIELD clearly showed Whedon setting up some arc where the Avengers find out about Fury lying and it's all shocking, etc. etc. but Coulson completely fell to the wayside and nobody gives a shit anymore.
>notorious wife beater
He hit her once and she was already taking advantage of his mental issues.
You're not very bright, are you?
Wait what, Coulson got degraded to non-canon? But what about the whole thing about his death uniting the Avengers in the first movie?
That’s what they get for taking a cool straight man character and turning him into a cutesy nerd who was somehow the emotional center of the team. I couldn’t fucking stand all the fawning over Coulson after Avengers, “D’aaw he had Captain America trading cards, he’s so awkward and sweet!”. Fucking Whedon poisoned the MCU with his affable joke shit.
Agents of SHIELD is apparently non-canon because they have never been brought into the movies in any form. Coulson's involvement up to his death in Avengers is canon. Just everything after it that is an unknown.
Fucking terribly. They wasted Karl Urban so bad.
Still amazing how much he fucked Ultron. Comic Ultron had such a cool design with that emotional robot face with the big open mouth and red eyes. What in God's name possessed them to only apply that look in a watered down version to the robot goon and have Ultron prime look the way he did with the teeth and the lips and the pupils? AoU had a relatively fun narrative all told, but it was brought down heavily by making the villain into a weird quip dispensor
Those scenes with him threatening America with his "lessons" were the best part of Iron Man 3. It was so disappointing that he turned out to be a shitty, unfunny joke and replaced by a fire-breathing plant man.
I'm good with Netflix and all the other shit being non-canon. There's always been a big divide between the shows and movies and nobody really gives a fuck about them anyhow outside of some tiny core fanbases that make up less than a fraction of the moviegoing audiences.
>Hank Pym is nobody but a wife beater
I was hoping that it was a double ruse and that he was actually a mastermind pretending to be an idiot to get a reduced sentence. But nope. Then I was hoping that it would be revealed that way in the short. But nope. Now I don't even know what they're going to do with "the real Mandarin" in Shang-Chi but it's a shame he will never fight Tony.
>Why couldn't he have a permanent gaping soiface with a loudspeaker in his head screaming "I HATE YOU, I HATE HUMANS, WASP IS MY MOMMY, AAAAAAHHHH!!!!"
Because it would have looked like some sort of stupid low-effort Sentai villain.
I haven't watched the show in years but I hear that they are doing a time travel plot now that has different time travel rules from Endgame. I'd say that is a confirmed non-canon at this point but Endgame wasn't exactly clear on it's own rules what with old man Steve showing up at the end so who knows?
I doubt they'll ever cross over to the films so it's a moot point.
>>Why couldn't he have a permanent gaping soiface with a loudspeaker in his head screaming "I HATE YOU, I HATE HUMANS, WASP IS MY MOMMY, AAAAAAHHHH!!!!"
Does this qualify as a strawman?
I want the cynical StarLord from the comics.
After Winter Soldier they pretty much stopped bringing in movie stuff, then lead hard into the Inhumans, without using any of the Royal Family or anything, then brought in Ghost Rider but wasted him, and then went to the future in what I and I'm sure other people initially thought was going to be a post Gauntlet future, then there was the alternate reality VR simulation with AI Madame Hydra. Then they brought in Graviton and I kind of checked out around this point.
