Do you think the director tried too hard to make a sympathetic character out of a slave owner?

No

Yeah, it was unnecessary. He's a slave owner, he's already sympathetic.

They spent a good amount of time showing him in a positive light tho

its more complex than that user

>Wanting to live up to your father's expectations
>Get's called the weakest link
>Thus begins the process of his heart hardening
>Brother goes missing most likely dead
>Your brother comes back and tells you to let the slaves go
>Remembers when his dad called him the weakest link
>Doubles down even harder

It is what made the movie good. Otherwise it would have been the stereotypical good brother and evil brother dichotomy.

He grew up into that life. Knowing he'd own and rule all these people as he grew up. Then, the one person to stand against him is his own brother, whom he loved dearly.

Brother vs Brother stories really get me.

He had no one to prove he;s not to. His dad was dead.

Prince of Egypt is kind of the tragedy of Ramses.

He had an entire empire and people to prove, a wife and son as well. A son which God/his brother later took from him

He was raised his entire life being taught the lineage of those who came before him and how those who came after him would do the same. His power comes with the responsibility of his deeds - his successes and his failures - being recorded for all time. It's not hard to see the pressure he lived under, his position in society necessitates every action be undertaken and decision made in light of the legacy it would leave and how it would reflect on his ancestors.

Egyptians are kinda known for their strong belief in an afterlife. Just because his dad died didn’t mean he couldn’t still judge him.

Also his dad had made a good point about how if Ramses fucked up hard enough, it’d be his only legacy in the history books, and every future generation for all time would hate him for it.

Christ O'Fuck user just because his dad is dead doesn't mean the bruised ego and pride aren't still there. Just because someone dies doesn't mean the actions they committed instantly vanish.

This and the fact that Moses had no problem with slavery once either. It shows you that Ramses could've changed

Moses had no problem in till he realized that it was his race that were being kept as slaves

Ramses could've had the same realization
The brother that he loves could've been a slave

Yeah and Moses stood by as God slayed the first born of every Egyptian there, but you sympathize even more with the plight because terrible measures must be made to make progress and gain freedom. You're just showing how naive you are here. Ramses reigns over an empire of slaves but he had something immense to prove to his father and, in a sense, to future generations who would be looking back on his legacy. It's even more tragic when you realize that in his attempt to be a strong leader and not give in he sullies his legacy even more by allowing horrible tragedies to inflict the people that look to him for guidance. I mean, would you want to Ramses with Egypt under occupation by a wrathful God?

Goddamn, i can't stand this movie's character designs. They're not appealing in the slightest

This is possible. But historically a lot of people adopted slave children and grew to love them without coming to critique keeping slaves
They look realistic to me.

What are some character designs that you like?

This shit was so stiff and boring looking. Say what you will about the Reinassance films, but at least those had some cartoony movements and expressions that made some use of the medium.

This is a clueless criticism. The Bible calls Christians slaves.

Also, if you've ever purchased Nike shoes or... say... watched cartoons animated in Korea, you've benefited from slave labor.

Certainly not these ones. This may be polished animation, but it's still soulless.

This mf is saying Prince of Egypt didn't make use of the medium

Not as far its character animation is concerned, and that's the problem. Disney always knew to have some cartoony animation to compensate for its generic designs, but Dreamworks and Bluth couldn't even get that right. Stuff like Anastasia, El Dorado, Titan AE and Sinbad were miserable experiences for me. If you like them, then more power to you.

>soulless.
I don't even worship these abrahamic desert dwellers but this is better than Mulan.

It's all visually impressive spectacle, but it lacks real substance and real heart imo. I'm sorry, but i didn't like PoE. I really tried to like it, but something didn't click. Maybe it was the quick pacing, or the weak songs, or the character designs and personalities. Whatever it was, i didn't like it

It’s brown people owning other brown people so who cares.

Nah this movie is amazing shut up

Rule number 1 for animators : Don't draw these kind of expressions. They're ugly

Rule number 1 for retards: Learn how to take screenshots

What’s wrong with making the antagonist more complex and human?

Zig Forums once again going full retard, nitpicking frames that have nothing wrong.
Hey OP, you will lose your mind once you discover slavery is still very much alive.
