I wish modern writers would be clever enough to pull something like this

>tfw everyone shite on Ennis
His run on hellblazer is by far the best. Delano being second.
The Family Man is the most personal John story in the series, Kit and Brandan be damned.
Thank God Hellblazer ended before they Pozzed it with political shit and Trump expys
Huh Ennis's run is usually cited as the best or the second best run
This but the other way around. Ennis is in the same situation as True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto in that they both wrote a great story because they had the time and creativity to doo ok so and then shit out less than stellar follow ups.
But Hellblazer has always been like that tho. Don’t you remember when they shat on Margret Thatcher? Again and again?
I just love how subtly it was tied to the Doll's House arc of Sandman
Don't. You know he's just doing it for the attention.
I thought Hellblazer and Sandman were separate entities?
they both still take place in the DC universe
Someone post the art from the last issue of the Family Man arc. It’s so awesome and captures the tone of the series well.
Also, the worst part about the Fear Machine is that there’s three good stories in there (none of them featuring hippy magic) but Delano smashed them into one for some reason.
You ever read the Sandman? John guest-starts in like issue 3.
Sandman, Hellblazer, Swamp Thing, Lucifer, Books of Magic and some others are all part of the same universe.
And that universe started as part of the main DC universe, but diverged away from it over time.
Haven’t read it. I didn’t know they shared a universe. I did read the Mystery Theater so I know that’s connected to the Sandman.
They're basically separate entities just with the same canon/world early in the Hellblazer series
>diverged away from it over time
no it didn't
And to that, I don’t think Garth Ennis’ run had the better art or covers.
yes it did vertigo is its own separate universe
Didn't the DC characters turn up to Morpheus's funeral
No it isn't. Karen Berger just didn't want crossovers.
nope
yep. And John too
No, it wasn't a separate universe until Johns' bollocks in Flashpoint. But that doesn't matter now anyways.
Even Darkseid was there. Probably couldn't resist the comfy chair.
I've always disagreed with this deeply. He has arguably the best arc, Dangerous Habits, but overall his run is not that amazing, not nearly as consistently great as Delano. Aside from the first arc, the birthday issue, and the King of Vampire's it's all pretty meh. Maybe he blew his load too early but regardless I never felt his run lived up to the hype.
It was after Infinite Crisis/52 when Didio replied to someone asking about how Vertigo fits into the 52 multiverses.
His answer was "it was never part of the DC universe," which was total bullshit
I liked Kit but I didn't need a follow up story on her family situation as the last story.
Vertigo is basically an Elseworld. The same characters exist in the main DC continuity, but they’re different versions of Vertigo’s characters
Kit's story was basically Ennis wanting to talk about North Ireland but knew it wouldn't fit into Hellblazer proper so this is what we got.
>Maybe he blew his load too early but regardless I never felt his run lived up to the hype.
I'll never get why everyone fell in love with his Hellblazer stuff in the early 90s, Outside of Dangerous Habits, none of it was really groundbreaking. Hell, even Dangerous Habits wasn'tthat original since Delano already had John rot away from demon blood issues in the Devil You Know arc.
